Adopted Mika (Shinoa & Yuu)

Hey guys, before I do anything else I just want to say that this story sets in the present day and not where vampires and Four Horsemen Of John (I think that's the name xD) and stuff exist. Enjoy!!!

It's been almost a year that Shinoa has been married to Yuu, and before that they dated for three years – that without counting the years they've met each other, since they were in high school. They know each other by heart now. So she shouldn't be surprised when he does something unexpected and potentially reckless – like bringing a child home out of the blue and saying the kid will be staying with them.

It's not like Shinoa dislikes children. No, she likes them, and she's even pregnant of their firstborn. But it's one thing to get ready to have a child, to have months to prepare yourself for the responsibilities and everything, and another very very different thing to just suddenly have a child under your care.

"Yuu, stop joking," She sighs and massages her temples, staring at her husband.

They are in the small kitchen of their house, Shinoa leaning against the counter and Yuu shrieked against the table, seeming to become smaller and smaller under Shinoa's tired gaze. The orange light of the sunset comes in from the window over the sink, basking everything in a beautiful golden glow; the entire house is so silent they could think it is just the two of them there.

However, there is a little boy sitting in their living room – from where he can't see nor hear them now, but Shinoa knows he's still there.

She had always known Yuu is reckless, but to think he would come to this point...

"Shinoa..."

"It's not a lost dog we're talking about, Yuu," She says cutting him, "We're talking about a child. You can't just bring a child home as if it's a small animal you found on the streets..."

"It's not like that!" He tries to raise his voice, but he pales a little at Shinoa's stern face, and then says in a small voice, "If only you let me explain..."

"Explain what? Yuu," She lowers her voice, afraid of being hear by the kid in the room next to them, "I know you work with this, but you can't bring this kind of work home."

"He's not some work," Yuu sounds offended, frowning at her, "Listen, Shinoa: I know you're upset, but... But Mika has nowhere to go. He doesn't have any other relatives, we've searched for everyone. And the orphanages are crowded. He needs a temporary home until we find a place to send him to. It's... It's just for a few days." He looks up at her with his eyes shining, like he does when he's pleading with her.

Shinoa sighs again and drops her gaze to her feet. She would really like to understand this situation but everything is just too crazy for her – Yuu came home from his work at social services bringing a child with him and saying the kid would be living with them. Who does this kind of thing?

"Please, Shinoa." Yuu stands up and approaches her, his expression saddening, "He has nobody else to take care of him."

She knows now that Yuu is seeing himself in that kid – completely abandoned, with no family to love and care for him. Yuu's parents died in a fire when he was nine, and he stayed in an orphanage until Guren adopted him at 14.

"Couldn't somebody else have stayed with him?" When he doesn't answer, she raises an eyebrow at him, "Yuu?"

"Well, Krul offered to," He mumbles averting his eyes and pouting. "But she already has Asura and Lacus to take care of, so I figured we could..." He trails off. Shinoa looks suggestively from her huge round belly that says straight away that she's pregnant, to her husband. Yuu's cheeks turn red, "Ok, I know we'll have a baby soon, but..."
