He was the first thing I saw as I got out of my car. His hazel eyes were staring at me with such intensity; it was hard for me to not stare back.
I took a deep breath and grabbed my bag from the back seat, glancing around at the other students. Everything looked like it did at any other high school. People were in their groups, laughing and talking before the first class.
As I walk up the parking lot to the main building, I look for the pair of hazel eyes. A couple of girls glance at me as I skim the groups of people, but I'm obviously not aware of my surroundings as I bump into someone.
"Sorry," I mutter, looking up at the person. There, the hazel eyes stared back at me.
"It's okay," he says, a smile spreading across his face. I smile back and stare at him for a minute, taking in his features.
His skin was an olive tone with freckles lining the bridge of his nose. The white of his teeth glistened as he continues to smile at me, his light golden eyes staring at me. His black hair was long, tied into a bun in the back of his head. And I knew one thing was for sure: he was beautiful.
"Well I better get going," I say, smiling at him one last time.
"See you around," he says to me as I start to walk off. I only hoped that I would.
My first class of the day was Shakespeare. We were just starting to read Macbeth, and I only hoped understanding it wasn't as hard as it looked. I made friends with the girl next to me, who was also new to the school.
Second period was Spanish, and I knew as soon as I walked into the room, it would be my favorite class. He was there, sitting on the far side of the room, a pencil in his mouth as he stared at the piece of paper on his desk.
"You must be Rose," the teacher says to me, smiling.
"Yeah," I say, returning the smile.
"Welcome. I already have your seat ready for you." The teacher gets me some papers that the class worked on last class, and it gives me enough time to glance at golden eyes. He's already staring at me, a small smile on his face.
"Here are the papers, and you'll be sitting next to Alex in the second row." A girl with long dark hair smiles at me. I smile back and head towards her.
"I'm Alex," she says, smiling at me as I sit down.
"Rose," I say.
"So, are you new here?" I nod.
"I just moved here from California."
"Wow," she says. "That's a drastic change in weather."
"Oh, I know."
The bell rings and a couple more people walk into the room, late.
"So have you seen anyone you like yet?" Alex says with a smile. I look on the opposite side of the room, and sure enough, he was staring at me.
"Um, maybe." I flick my gaze back to Alex, who already knew that my answer was yes.
"His name is Jordan," she says grinning. "He's super sweet and smart, but he doesn't really talk that much."
The teacher started talking then, ending any other topics about Jordan.
Throughout the whole class, I could feel his gaze on the side of my face, burning and daring me to look over at him. Instead, I kept my eyes forward, trying to listen to what the teacher was saying.
"Hey, you want to sit with me at lunch?" Alex is standing up, her bag slung over her shoulder.
"I was hoping you would ask," I say with a grin.
