"I remember it like it was yesterday!" My mother exclaimed. "My little Samson was such a cutie!!"
"Come on mom. No need to exaggerate. I was a baby just like everybody else was a baby at one point too."
"You were a cute little baby!" She said with excitement in her voice. "Now can you please tell your sister to come out here and help me with dinner?"
"Alright." I said.
I made my way to Vienna's room and I was stopped by my dad halfway there.
"Does this tie match my shoes?" He asked. He was going to the business complex for his first job interview.
My dad is Martin darling. He owned 'Darling Records', a record company that made a lot of artists we know today pretty famous. Lady goo-goo, Justin beaver and even two directions. My sister loves two directions. When we moved to moonlight bay he had to give all of that up. Why? I don't know. My dad never told me. He says the move is for the best but so far I'm not enjoying any of it. The small house, not knowing anybody, and to add to that, I haven't seen a single hot girl.
"Yeah dad. You're matching." I said before continuing on my way to my sisters room.
I opened her door. She was playing with her teddy bear, Gavin.
"Vienna it's time for dinner and mom wants you to help set up."
"Tell mom no." Vienna said. "Gavin and I are having a tea party!"
I sighed and walked away. At least I tried.
I sat at the dinner table and waited. "What's for dinner?" I asked my mom who was still cooking.
"Lobster Thermidor! It's going to be so yummy!"
"Did I just hear somebody say lobster?!" My dad yelled from my parents bedroom. "I have a fish joke! Who wants to hear it?"
"I know I do!" My mom shouted.
I just sat there and waited for dinner to be over.
"What did one pirate fish say to the other pirate fish?" My dad asked, waiting to tell the punch line. "... I'm going to make you walk the plankton! Hahaha!"
I have no clue how my dad ran an entire record company. He's such a loser. A 'fuddy duddy' so to speak. He's never really done anything cool except owning a record company. He never did anything with it. Yeah he tells jokes and what not but they're never funny.
"I'm off to work now! who wants a hug?" My dad asked.
My mom smiled and hugged him. So did my sister.
"Bye sam." my dad said as he walked out the door. I had a feeling I was the least appreciated in the family.
Because my dad had left, my mom was vulnerable so I decided to ask her a question that I had asked her almost every chance I got when my dad wasn't around to hear me.
"Why did we move?" I asked.
The room was filled with silence. My mother then let out a sigh and replied with the same reply she always gave me.
"Your father wanted to make a change, dear."
I was sick of it. I was sick of the same replies over and over again.
"What is your problem mom? You're like a broken record!" I shouted at her. "Why did we move?! I'm 17 years old! I think I can handle a little bad news!"
"Sam, I am only going to tell you this once." She continued. "Your father and I made a decision to move and why we made that decision is none of your business."
In a way she was right. But a part of me knew something was wrong.
