My life was quickly falling apart. One day I had an ordinary family, a small house I should have been damn thankful for, and the fact that I cared about not knowing anybody was eating away at me. I had a family. Now I have a dead mother, a traumatized little sister and a dad who is M.I.A.

A police officer came to join me in the room I was in. it was one of those rooms that you would use to question criminals. He only put my sister and I in there because there wasn't really anywhere else for us.

"Hello kids, my name is-"

"I'm not a kid. I'm 17." I interrupted the police officer. I was so angry with everyone.

"ok... anyway. We think we know who killed your mother. As hard as this is for you to hear, and as hard as it is for me to tell you, we think it was your father."

I could not process the words that just came out of his mouth. My dad didn't kill anybody. He loved my mother more than anything. I wasn't going to sit and listen to the lies that were coming from this man's mouth. I got up and tried to leave but I was grabbed by two men in blue suits.

"Let me go!" I yelled at them. They weren't letting go and they weren't bringing me back to my seat. They were dragging me out of the room and down a dimly lit hallway.

"What about my sister?! I can't just leave her there!" I protested.

The men threw me into the street and slammed the door in my face.

"What just happened?" I thought to myself. All of this was happening so quickly but I decided to take advantage of it.

I was going to find my dad.

I got up and brushed off my jeans. All I could see was concrete parking lot followed by some trees. I decided I would walk to the closest house I could find so I could call my dad's cell. Just ask I started walking, the big metal doors opened again. The same two men did to my sister what they did to me. They pushed her to the ground and locked the doors behind them. Apparently they had all the evidence they needed to prove my dad guilty. I don't know a lot about the law but I do know that when the police find a witness, they're supposed to keep them for questioning.

My sister got up and began to cry. She kicked the dirt and then looked at me. She looked so broken. I wasn't going to just leave her like that. I needed to find my dad and prove this couldn't have been him.

I began walking and my sister followed close behind. It wasn't long before we found an old house. It looked really sketchy but I wasn't complaining.

"Sam be careful." My sister said.

"I'll be fine." I told her. The sad part is that I couldn't tell if that was even the truth. For all I knew The place could have been set with all kinds of traps. I wasn't kidding when I said it looked sketchy.

The house was one of many on the street, but it looked different from the rest. It was covered in vines and the windows were boarded up. The clear path to the door suggested somebody was actually living there so I decided to knock on the door.

Knock knock.

No answer.

I knocked again. This time I heard somebody mumbling words very faintly. They realized I was at the door and the cries became louder and louder. It was clear that they wanted my attention.

I walked around the house trying to see if I could look through one of the boarded up windows.

Finally, at the back of the house, there was a board missing so I took a look inside the house. Everything was completely black except for one light in the corner. There was a man tied to a chair with a cloth over his mouth. He saw me and began yelling as loud as he could. I knew he needed help so I made my way to the front of the house and busted the door open, untying the man and getting him out of the house.

As we were running, he removed the cloth from his mouth and breathed out very heavily.

"SAM!" The man yelled. How did he know my-

"Sam it's dad." The man said. We stopped running. The man in front if me was not my dad. He was so pale and thin.

"They kept me for so long. I would have died in there if you hadn't found me." He said very thankfully. "They killed your mother Sam. I owed them so much money and they killed your mother."

"Why?" I asked. That was the only word I felt I could say.

"I just owe a lot of people money and we need to get out if here. Now."

I pushed him away. "Did you kill mom?" I asked him.

"No! Sam! I didn't kill your mother. I'll explain when we get to the police station. Please just hurry!"

We ran back to the police station and went around the front. As soon as my dad walked through the doors, the police were putting him in handcuffs.

"I know who did this! Please let me explain!"

The officers took him out of the handcuffs.

"I was involved in so many drugs when I was a young man and I never actually paid for them. It was a huge mistake that I have clearly paid for." He went on. "Their names are tony perry and Vic fuentes. They'll be back at that old house any time."

Without thinking the police left the building and went to arrest the men. Of course they would need the proof before it was official but I still felt somewhat safe knowing the police had the men who killed my mother.

Today my father, sister and I are living in sunset valley. It's a small town in California, far from moonlight bay and we are loving every minute of it. My dad bought back his record company, my sister is starting high school and I'm graduating from university. Life is good.
