Happiest Day of My Life

"Good morning Mrs Ryder." Lily the nurse who was at the reception greeted me with a petite smile.

I nod and smiled back at her. I made my way to the usual direction to the private wad room number 710. After placing my bag and stuff on the table I went beside the bed where he was laying with an oxygen mask strap over his face, the water drip injected into his left hand, thumb pulse on his right thumb and a heart beeping machine connected to his chest. He was still unconscious.

"I love you so much" I whisper to his ear and planted a soft kiss on his forehead while stroking his hair.

Just then, the doctor came in and as usual checked his condition and also asked how I was doing.Dr. Thompson was the one treating and attended to us when we arrived at the E.R for the first time. After finishing up my work, rearranging all the papers back into my files, I walked back to the side of the bed dragging a chair and sat beside him. I cupped his hands into mine making our fingers intertwined with each other and started to talk to him. Telling him about what's going on right now outside the hospital. Even though he was unconscious, I knew he could hear me. I just knew it.

I told him about my first week of being 'the lady' at work since I just got promoted last week as the new and youngest CEO of the industry, how exciting it was having my own personal enormous office, how people started to respect and looked up to me and especially the moment where he was not by my side celebrating my successful promotion. Then unintentionally, I fell asleep while holding his hand. Suddenly it all came back to me.

"I love you Angel" he said coming out from nowhere.

Angel was my nickname which he called me since we have been married for 2 months and I did not even know why. Maybe I do not want to know. We just got back from having dinner with his parents and now he was driving back to our home in the middle of the night.

"No you don't. We were forced to marry each other by our parents. We barely know each other." I said.

"I don't care about that. I am happy I got to spend the rest of my life with the woman I love and to top it all, I'm taking this opportunity to get to know each other since we just got hitched like strangers. Isn't it exciting?" happily he replied. At that moment actually I had fallen for him.

The past few months being with him before the marriage was very challenging and not what I expected in my life to happen at all. I have no feelings towards him, I even scolded him for every single thing he did for me even the smallest thing like holding my hand in public, trying to make me laugh when I was not in a good mood and carrying me to the bedroom whenever I fell asleep in the house office while doing my work or fell asleep while watching t.v. It didn't bother him. He would just listen to me and even apologies for his innocent actions. Yeah I was a jerk.

"It is not exciting when a person is not in love with you" I spat.

He flinched at my remark, then silence hit us. His plastered happy face fell down and his eyes was fully on the road. I should not say that. You have just crossed the line Jasmine. Stupid girl. I was about to apologies to him when suddenly from nowhere a black Honda came speeding with tire screeching from our lane.

I looked by the side mirror and saw the reckless driving. My heart started to beat fast when we had to go through a bridge on our way home and at that time the road was kind of quiet since it was one o' clock in the morning. I looked over to Alex and he looked curious too glancing at the rear-view mirror every second.

My heart stopped when the car hit us hard from behind made both of us jerked and Alex lost control of the car. Before we knew it, our car crashed at the side railing of the bridge making it flew into the calm river. I closed my eyes tightly as I did not want to experience such death. Suddenly the water started to gush into the car between the holes and spaces from the doors. I panicked.
