For Caitlyn, with love. Hope that you enjoy it, and thanks for the suggestion!

Rolling over the in bed, I reached my arms out, still half-asleep, expecting to eventually run in to my sleeping boyfriend’s body at some point. But my arms just kept reaching until I got to the edge of the bed. I sat up and looked around, rubbing the sleep from my eyes, confused. The room was dark, the curtains drawn and only a few rays of sunlight leaking in through the gaps. The bed was made up on the side where Michael had been sleeping. I made a face, still trying to figure out what was going on.

I was considering going back to bed when the door creaked open slowly. Michael came in carrying a tray of food, his curly black hair messy still from sleep, wearing a zip-up sweatshirt and his boxers. I raised my eyebrows and chuckled slightly. This isn’t the first time he’d surprised me like this—that’s just the kind of person that he is. Michael’s romantic nearly to a fault, putting his whole soul in to every little thing he did in our relationship, whether it be an actual date or just holding my hand, something that I found refreshing. We’d been together for going on two years now, and these kinds of gestures had become part of my every-day life. But that didn’t make them any less special to me.

He flashed a brilliant smile at me, nudging the door shut again with his foot and turning on a light.

“I was hoping you’d be up,” he said sweetly, climbing in to the bed carefully and putting the tray in between us.

“What are you doing?” I laughed.

“Breakfast in bed, obviously,” Michael said. “I’ve got fruit, muffins, yogurt, milk, juice…”

“You got up early to do all this for me?”

Michael nodded, taking a bit of watermelon.

“You didn’t have to go to all this trouble,” I told him as I reached for a chocolate muffin. “I could have easily woken up and joined you for breakfast downstairs.”

“There’s no romance in that,” Michael muttered, leaning in and running his hand down my thigh, whispering in my ear: “Besides, after last night, I needed to do something for you. You did so much for me…”

I turned red, biting in to my muffin and averting my eyes. Michael laughed, amused with himself, and put his arm around me, pulling me in closer to him.

“You slept all right?” he asked me.

“Yeah,” I said, then looked in to his eyes, pouting slightly. “But I didn’t appreciate waking up without you here.”

“Trust me, I didn’t want to leave the bed,” he said. “Sacrifices have to be made.”

We finished breakfast, and I set my napkin back down on the tray, turning towards him.

“What do you want to do now?” I asked him, running one of my hands through his hair.

“First, I need to take this tray back downstairs,” Michael said. “You stay up here for a second, though, I’ll be right back.” He hesitated at the door and looked at me. “No makeup or any of that fancy stuff today, hear me?”

I smiled at him. “Yes, sir.”

Once he was gone, I went to the bathroom to at least fix my appearance a little bit, splashing some water on my face and brushing my teeth quickly. I ran a comb through my hair, leaving in down and tosseled, a look that I knew drove Michael insane. Hearing his footsteps coming back up the stairs, I checked over myself one more time, opting to stay in my pajamas—panties and gray t-shirt—the way Michael was. Then I walked back out in to the bedroom, wrapping my arms around his waist and kissing him gently on the lips. His hands ran down my curves, and he smiled as he took my hand.
