CHAPTER ONE: THE TEST
Bleep. Bleep. Bleep.
I jolt awake, the annoying bleeps of the alarm clock jarring my thoughts. Today is the last day of high school, the day I will complete my aptitude test giving me the option of which college I will attend. There are five possible choices here for me in Chicago including: Abnegation (that's where my parents attended, and they keep hinting at how they wish for me to go there) Erudite, Amity, Dauntless, and Candor. Each type of college has a different set of values and principles they teach. Abnegation being selflessness, Erudite being knowledge, Amity being kindness, Dauntless being bravery, and Candor being honesty. As of now, I'm not sure which college I will attend, but I have ruled out Erudite, I'm definitely not smart enough for that, Amity is just annoying, and I lie to much for Candor. Dauntless seems pretty cool, but I do not really want to disappoint my parents by not choosing Abnegation. I jump out of bed, thoughts about the aptitude test consuming my mind. I quickly brush through my long, blonde, semi-straight hair examining it in the mirror. Its so plain. I then apply some minimal makeup, just some mascara and lipgloss, also noticing my disproportional face. My nose is to big and my face to narrow. Then I put on a grey oversized sweater paired will black leggings, and ugg boots. I look at myself one last time before heading out the door, noticing my tiny frame. I wish I was taller. It's the middle of spring, but there has been few signs of the weather getting warmer. Once my look is complete I rush downstairs, grab an apple, and head outside for the bus where my brother Caleb is already waiting.
"You nervous?"I ask him, fear evident in my voice.
"Not really, I know were I belong."
Of course. I always knew he would end up going to Abnegation.

The bus drops us annoying, loud high school kids off at the door, people acting like it's a usual day. Here we will decide the rest of our lives. Here we will determine our future. I quickly walk into the building, guiding my way through the halls, people bustling around, nervous for the test. I make my way to my homeroom, where we will receive a ten page packet test with many different questions, seeing how our minds work and what college we will be qualified to apply for. I'm just hopping my test results are not divergent, or I will not be accepted into college, and I will live among the poor, filthy, factionless. Once everyone gets into the room, Ms. Tori, the incredibly talented art teacher here at Faction High, goes on about the test and how it will decide the rest of our lives. I just tune her out, the nervousness building inside of me. Once he passes out the test, I examine the questions, most being how we would react in a certain situation. Once I have finished, I turn it into the machine in which it will grade it and report the results back to Ms. Tori, I quickly go back to my seat, sitting their tapping my pencil, waiting for her to call me up to talk about my test results. After about fifteen minutes she calls me up. My palms are sweating, and a nervous feeling fills every part of my body. "Ms. Tris Prior, the result of your test was Divergent.." oh no. oh god. "But you are smart girl, and you deserve to get the education you deserve, so I am going to change your test results. You must choose which college you will be attending, and it must be either Erudite, Abnegation, or Dauntless, because those were the results that were not ruled out. You must not tell anyone about this, for it is very dangerous for me to be changing your results." Uhh. I don't know.. "Dauntless" I spit out without thinking. Tori smiles, "Good choice, I attended that college. Its great and a lot of fun!" Well, I guess after graduation tomorrow, I will end up in a new place, with new faces and different customs.
xxxxxxxxxPAGE BREAKXXXXXXXXXAfter school I arrive home walking with Caleb, and Susan and Robert, my neighbors. Once home, I ponder my results. What are my parents going to think of me? Why didn't I say Abnegation? I hope they are not mad at me! I quickly do the dishes, these thoughts nagging in the back of my head. Once my parents arrive home, we all sit down to eat. They ask about school, but not about the test. There not supposed to know about our results till graduation which is tomorrow. After that we begin our new lives by beginning college. I must say I am pretty excited to be meeting new people. After dinner we are dismissed to our rooms, where I sit and think. I can't believe this is my last night living here, in this room. Soon I doze off, thinking about the big day ahead.
