Dark clouds hovered in the sky,
Ready to burst open their reign of destruction,
Sky was thundering as the lightning struck,
In this cloak of obscurity,
There was no one to stop me,
The coast was clear,
I was ready.
I wanted to plunge into the darkness,
To unite with its mystic black threads,
To be free from the pain,
I couldn’t bear it,
It strangled me,
Buried and crushed me,
My skin was raw from its burns,
I wanted to pull out my wreaked heart out and bury it,
Just to stop this feeling,
There was no doubt.
The knife was clean and lustrous,
It was beautiful,
Its blade curved like a parrots red beak,
It was eager for my blood,
The warm moisture,
The rustic smell.
Then suddenly I heard the sound that changed my life,
The scream was blood curling,
I couldn’t move
She fell through the sky like a rag doll,
Whipped around by wind,
She struck the ground like an earthquake,
The sudden silence was eerie,
Her mother’s cries filled the world,
The howling rattled my very bones,
The girl was laying still and dead,
Her blood mixing with the rain,
Her life was over,
She was just four.
There was nothing I could do,
There was no way to save her.
Then it hit me,
The air rushed out of my lungs,
I didn’t dare to breathe,
My thoughts were spinning wild,
Thinking straight was difficult.
My parents had died in that horrid accident,
I had gone to confirm their mangled bodies,
They were dead,
But I was alive,
Through all the heartbreak and failures,
I survived.
Lying in a cool room,
On a stiff bed,
I fought to open my eyes,
The darkness was pulling me underwater,
I saw a break in the clouds,
The sun shone in the sky,
Warm, bright and magnificent on my skin,
Waking from the depths of unconsciousness,
The white angel’s voice guided me,
And I opened my eyes,
I never felt clearer,
Life never seemed easier,
Because I was alive.
