Three

Year: 1817
After close consideration I decided to off Antoine-Joseph by getting his three year old self to drink sulphuric acid. A bit cruel I will admit but that little brat deserved nothing better for not just dying when I threw him out of the third story window. Now that I knew where his bedroom was though it would be easier to place such a dangerous substance in his reach. He's only three anyways. He'll probably drink any substance he finds.

For those of you who don't know, sulphuric acid looks and has the consistency of water but is much more dangerous. When ingested, sulphuric acid will burn the mouth and throat dissolving the skin and such on its way down to the stomach. In your final moments before death you will experience diarrhea, vomiting and severe pain as the acid decintagrates you from the inside out. This is what I plan to give to three year old Antoine-Joseph.

I aquire sulphuric acid (I know a guy) and travel to the correct time and place for my plan to fall into action. The only thing left to do is to climb to the third story window of the Sax's house. This, however, proved to be a bit more difficult than I had imagined. I started by jumping the fence behind their house and proceeded to the rain gutter. There was nothing but the rain gutter to boost me to the first roof ledge so I began searching for something to step on.

I found an old wooden box beside the house and dragged it over under the gutter. I stood on the box and grabbed the gutter abd began to pull myself up. Pull-ups were never my specialty and it seems that they were going to remain that way. I tried anyways and was almost to the top when the box under me gave way and I fell to the ground with a thud. I heard Mrs. Sax in her kitchen moving pots as she called out to me. I didn't answer but ran to the side of the house and hid. Watching from the corner I saw as she stepped out of the doorway and peered around for the source of the crash.

After finding nothing she turned around and went back inside. I let out a breathe of relief and began searching again. After awhile I found another box. This one I examined before I used. It was full of potatoes and would probably hold my weight better than an empty box. The sun was beginning to set now and I new I would have to hurry before my young target was put to bed so I dragged the box of potatoes over to the rain gutter.

As I passed, I peeked into the kitchen window to see what the Sax family was currently doing.

They were all three sitting at the table enjoying a home-cooked meal (a luxury unachievable by a time assassin like myself). They would be occupied for awhile while I climbed their house.

I set the box in place and grabbed the gutter and pulled myself up. It took all my strength but I made it to the first section of the roof of the house. I tiptoed over the spot in the roof where I guessed the table was so the family eating below wouldn't suspect anything as I made my way to the next pull-up. I peered into a second story window to see a well-furnished bedroom with a large canopy bed, a dresser and a vanity with a large mirror and several beauty products askew the top. I assumed this was the parents bedroom. The plush bed haunted my memories as I recalled the beds that were slept in at the time assassin training camp. Cold, hard metal bunk beds lined up in rows down a dreary corridor. Regular people were so lucky.

After a moment of wistful staring I remembered I had a mission to complete and grabbed onto the rain gutter again to pull myself up to the next portion of roof that would lead me to the third floor.

There was no box to aid me this time and I began to regret staring at the fancy bedroom for so long. I pulled up and slowly lifted myself up onto the roof and spotted the familiar bedroom where I had pushed a child out of a window. Ah, good times. Only this time I came up to the opposite side of the room. I peered in and noticed that the window I had pushed little Antoine-Joseph out of had been locked. These parents were clever to do so but, sadly, not clever enough to lock the window opposite the room. I could easily slide through the unlocked window right now but I had to plan the timing perfectly.

I heard footsteps on the stairs as the Sax parents brought their son to bed. I scooted back behind the window frame and hid just out of sight but I could hear them as they put their son into bed and told him they loved him and everything else he needed. Being an only child had clearly spoiled this kid. Maybe that's why he created such a dangerous invention. Too much babying as a child. All the candidates for the time assassin's are orphans. No parents, nothing to slow the assassin down on his missions.

The Sax parents finally leave the child to sleep and I hear their footsteps retreat down the stairs. I peer into the window and see Antoine-Joseph lying on his bed with his back to me. Why does a toddler need such a big bed? I tap on the window. He doesn't stir. I tap again and he turns over and looks at me. I wave and smile to show I'm friendly.
And this dumb little kid completely falls for it. He toddles over and I slide the unlocked window open and sit on the floor in front of him. He looks at me with his big, ignorant eyes and sits down in front of me.
"Who are you?" He asks.
"I'm a magical being from a far off land. Tell me, do your mommy or daddy ever let you have a glass of water before bed?"
"No. They say it'll make me wet the bed. What's your name?"
"My name is Adolphe." I said using my previous undercover name. "And I'm here to tell you that your mommy and daddy are wrong and you can have a glass of water before bed without wetting it."
"I can?" He asks amazed.
"Oh, yes. Would you like a glass of water?" I ask sweetly.
He nods his head vigorously and I take the container of sulphuric acid and hand it to him. He giggles and says something about the water being in a 'silly bottle' before chugging the whole thing. I take the bottle and stand up as the child starts to cry. I walk over to a bowl filled with water on a table (for washing hands) and dump the contents out the window. This way when the police investigate the crime scene they'll see the empty bowl and assume that's what he drank. I climb out the window and look down at Antoine-Joseph one more time before I leave. He is now vomiting and crying at the same time. Pitiful. I close the window and leave.

I return to the time master and give my report.

"Please pay me, master."

Again the book is brought out and the large man reads.

"You have failed again." He says grimly. My eyes pop out in surprise.

"How can this be?" I shout. "The child drank sulphuric acid! How is he alive? Please, give me another chance!"

"Vin, please know that you are a highly honored asset here and that I have looked after you like a father but we can not except mistakes." He looked around like someone was listening, with a worried look on his face. "I will grant you one last chance. Do not return here until you have assassinated Antoine-Joseph Sax!"
