Prologue
Declan Yates,
I know you're wondering what this is and who the hell wrote this. Well, it's me, Keira. You know your best friends sister?
Right, well I had a really amazing time last night and I want to thank you for coming over. I also wanted to ask if you would like to go out with me sometime.
I know this is weird since you're my brothers’ best friend and all but after last night I'm sure we had something.
If not, I understand.
Please don't tell anyone about this,
Lots of love,
Keira xxxx
I stared at the pale pink, handwritten letter and took a deep breath.
"I can do this," I mumbled to myself, flicking a strand of my long black hair. "I can do this," I repeated once again.
"Do what?" asked a voice I only recognised too well, Amelia, my best friend.
I stumbled back and quickly hid the letter behind my back. Nervously, I bit my lip and let out a smile, "nothing," I mumbled.
“Oh please Keira, you are such a bad liar,” she took a step to the side and I followed her movement by taking a step back, “what have you got there?” she asked in a light hearted singing tone.
I felt my heart pace increase, “it’s nothing really.” I lied smoothly, hiding it with a smile.
“If it’s nothing then why are you hiding it?” she asked raising her slightly bushy, dark brown brow.
I licked my lips, and laughed awkwardly trying to find a suitable reply to the question. Whilst I was mesmerised in my tunnel of awful lies she grabbed the pale pink paper and shoved it right in front of her face.
“Declan Yates…” she began reading and then came to an abrupt stop. She stared at me, her pale blue/green eyes getting wider by the second “this is for Declan?” she questioned.
I closed my eyes and slowly nodded my head.
After several seconds of silent, I slowly opened an eye and realised that Amelia was reading the letter. I stepped towards her and gently took the letter off her making sure that it wouldn’t rip.
“Who knew that you were finally going to confess your feeling for the first time, although I have to admit that a letter is a bit old fashioned,” she smirked giving me a hug.
“Shut up,” I grinned, embarrassed. “Promise me you won’t tell anyone?”
She nodded her head and pressed her finger to her lips, “nothing shall be revealed.” She laughed whilst flicking her golden brown hair. “When are you going to give it to him?”
“Well, I’m not exactly going to give it to him…” I explained.
“-What do you mean?” she interrupted, confused.
“I’m going to put it in his locker, I don’t really have the guts to give it to him personally,” I clarified.
Amelia nodded in agreement, “if you want I could do it for you?” she offered.
I laughed quietly, “thanks, but no thanks.”
I turned towards Declan’s locker and looked down at the pink pale letter, I took a deep breath and slipped it inside his locker.
“Perfect.” I commented.
But was it?
No.
This was the mistake that changed my life.
