Chapter One; A fresh start.
I put my arms through the black leather of the jacket I had recieved only the night before. I looked in the mirror and shrugged my shoulders back. My image mirroring every little move I did. I trudged to the living room next to the door and picked up the damp hoodie and opened a door that lead down to the basment. As I reached the designated destination of the washing machine and opened the lid as I dropped the hoodie in. I turned around and steeped up the stairs until I was back onto the main floor. I walked over to the black boots and picked them up as I inspected the dampening mud stuck on the sides and soles. I walked to the washroom and grabbed a cloth and took the shoes to the bathtub and set them down. I took the shower head down and turned the knob and lets the water soak off most of the mud. I shined the shoes off and dried them off. I slipped my feet into the shoes and stood up and walked around the house pacing back and forth throughout every room re-thinking if I should go or not. The loop in my life needed to stop but, I don't know when. I don't want to be pressured to make a change. I stopped and reached for my phone about to call Kiley. My finger hovered above the button until I gently pressed the call button.
"Hello? Journey are you ready to go?" Kiley's voice rang through my ears as I contemplated what to say. "Uhm, yeah." I mumbled. "Okay, I'll be there in five." With thatI I couldn't hear my rescuers voice.
I put my phone in my pocket as I took a deep breath knowing this was my chance to lead the rest of my life in a better way. A chance for the depression to finally fade. I went into my room and looked at the reflection of the tall girl staring back. "I'm not going to hurt you anymore. You deserve better. No more hurting, Okay?" I took in a shaky sigh as the aburt knock on the door started me. I hurridly grabbed my key and dashed over to the door. I reached for the handle and turned the knob to see the face of the girl who has done nothing but love me throughout everything. She smiled at me then grabbed my forearm and tugged me along as I shut the door. "Ready to shop, or eat? I'll let you choose." She asked gently. "Uhm, let's go to the mall, I need to find some more art supplies." I shrugged. I opened the car door and sat on the leather seat and stretched the seat belt over my body. I waited for Kiley to do the same and then she headed down the road to get us to the destination.
"So, are you holding up, okay, these days?" Kiley mumbled. I nodded my head in an exisistent lie. "That's amazing! I'm glad you are still here, on earth!" I cracked a smile and let out a little laugh. It wasn't a pained laugh, it was genuine. "What?" She questioned. "I'm happy to be here right now to." She smiled at me then faced the road. For the next fifteen minutes we talked about what we though of eachother being like in close years. I didn't even notice we were at the mall until she told me. "We, are, finally, here." She stated slowly.I opened the car door and stepped out. I hadn't visited this mall in years. I had always shopped offline but that stopped about a year ago when I moved out. "Maybe I can find a job if I'm lucky." I stated as we paced ourselves to the entrance. "If you are lucky, the mall is packed today." I looked in the parking lot and saw the hundreds of cars aligned. "Yeah, it is. I hardly doubt that any place is offering a job anyways." I shrugged. We walked into the big building and looked around at the shop windows, awaiting to find the art supplies whilst window shopping.
"That's a nice hoodie." I pointed at the navy blue hoodie. "You want it? I'll buy that." I shook my head. "I meant for you." She laughed a little. "I'll try it." We entered the store as she walked over to the hoodie and inspected it. I trailed behind her. "It's nice." She mused. I chuckled. "Are you going to buy it?" I asked tenderly. "Maybe?" She winked. I laughed at her cheesiness, as we walked to the cashier. "This is a nice hoodie. Is this all you want to buy?" She asked Kiley. Kiley faced towards me, "Want anything?" I shook my head and turned to the cashier. She typed on the cash register until she spoke up, "Fifteen, thirty two." Kiley swipped her card and signed her signature. She grabbed the bag and reciept and we exited the small shop.
"Can we go for the art store now?" I asked. "Yeah, let's." We wandered the mall looking through each window until we got to the art shop. We walked in as I looked for the sketch paper. I turned my back and walked backwards. "I'm gonna go next door to buy some shoes. Okay?" She asked slowly. "Go ahead." She turned around and left. I turned around and rammed into a body that sent me stumbling back.
"Whoa, are you alright? I'm sorry, that was my fault." I shook my head at the stranger looking down. "No, just me being a klutz." I sighed out and looked up. " No, but you should be a little more careful you never know what creeps will snatch you if you run into them." He told me polietly. "Yeah, thanks." I swifted around him heading for the art supplies I needed to stock up on. My eyes racked the shelves as I grabbed what I need to draw. As I got everything I walked up to the cashier and set my things down onto counter. I dug into my pocket for my wallet seeing I only had thirty dollars for when my mom gave me some, to buy a little bit a food, me only buying eggs, milk, flour, butter, sugar, and bread. "That'll be twenty, on the dot." I handed over the twenty and grabbed the bag. "Wait are you guy's offering any jobs?" The guy looked down then looked up for a minute. "Uhh, wait here." With that he walked into a back room and came out with a sheet. "Fill this out and get it back to us soon." I nodded my head and headed next door to look for my friend buying possibly a heap of shoes. "Journey!" I heard a familiar voice call from behind me. I turned around only to ram into a body, for the second time today. I stumbled a little bit. "Are you okay?" I nodded my head, then when I looked up I saw it was the same guy that I had ran into only minutes ago. This time with a girl by his side. "Yeah, it's fine." I shifted around him and made my way over to Kiley. "Who was that?" I shook my head. "No one. But, are you ready to go?" She looked at the shoes and sighed. "Yeah, I like the shoes but, they aren't in my size." I let out a little laughed and smiled. "Well kiss the shoes goodbye." She sighed and set the shoes into the box and laid it back down.
"Eat?" I suggested. Kiley nodded her head swiftly. We headed to the food court by tracking up three escalators unstead of waiting. When we got to the food court we looked at the stands silently deciding which one. "Subway?" She suggested. I nodded my head slowly as we approached the stand. "Uh I'll order for you go choose a seat." I nodded and started to walk towards the table in the middle of the food court. I hung my head hoping not to run into anyone I knew from highschool. Not wanting any questions about why I haven't stayed in contact. 'Cause if they really wanted to talk to me, they would call me. But, I bet they felt the same way. Suddenly someone grabbed my forearms stopping me. My head shot up to see the boy I had ran into twice making this thrice. "I stopped you from a collision again." I nodded my head and shifted on my feet. "I guess this is how we are gonna meet from now on?" I chuckled a little bit and slightly shook my head. "Maybe you should give me your number so next time we run into each other it'll be on a date?" He suggested. I let out a shaky breath and let my phone number slip out of my mouth. "945-3256" He smiled as he typed the number into his phone. "I'll call you." With that he walked off.
"Who was that?" Kiley was suddenly beside me. "I don't know, but is really nice." I smiled a little. "You don't know his name but, he has your number? Girl, I think you are crushing." I looked at her and smiled. "Let's just eat."
