Where it All Began

~

"So you know me, I was just sitting on my bench talking on the phone with Jason and then..." Amber blabbered about a story that I could care less about. Every word that left her mouth was always about her stupid boyfriend. Jason this, Jason that, for all I care, they were practically married at this point.

"Hey, are you even listening? This is the good part", Amber said. I gave a look that I hope she comprehended as I don't care, but I doubt. Amber was a naive girl. Anything you told her she would believe it instantly without even thinking about how fake and dumb the words sound.

"GIRLS!" my mom hollered from downstairs. Oh god! I thought. The bus was going to be here any minute and I wasn't even close to being ready. I quickly shoved everything I needed for school in my bag and jumped down the stairs, grabbing a juice box before quickly putting on my shoes. Amber was right behind me as we said goodbye to my mom and ran outside only to see the bus speeding away.

"Wait", Amber and I shouted running after the bus, but like always the bus-driver just sped down the road not even glancing back.

"She's petty as F bro, like we were right there!" Amber said voicing her opinion angrily. Amber was the type of girl you'd rarely hear cussing. Even if she was mad like at this moment, she would only say the first letter of the cuss word she wanted to say. What a strange girl.

Oh yeah, did I tell you Amber was a debater. Yeah, number one in the state baby! By the way she talks you may think she's pretty, ahh what's the word? Pretty dumb I guess you could say. But in all honesty, Amber's vocabulary was extraordinary. Her parents even joked that when she was younger she would read the dictionary as if it was a normal children's book.

"Okay freak you can stop talking to yourself..."

"I was not talking to myself", I blurted out cutting her off mid-sentence.

"Denial is not only a river in..."

"Oh, shut up would ya?"

"It's not my fault you like speaking to yourself, but seriously", she said her expression changing from playful to deadpan immediately, "you need medical attention! It's like every time I'm with you, you always zone out, and the only logical explanation I can think of is, you have schizophrenia", she shrugged as if joking about a brain disorder was normal.

Whatever I thought. You need medical help because you talk too much?

"What was that honey-bun full of fun?" Amber asked, her smile dangerously creepy.

"Nun. So are we going to have to walk to school or can your boyfriend pick us up?" I asked emphasizing the word boyfriend. I never really liked that word. Maybe because I was jealous that every teenage girl had one except for me.

Lol!

"No can do, he's probably already at school", she answered. Just the thought of her boyfriend made her lips spread to form something like a, smile?

"I guess walking it is!" I stated.

We walked in pure silence as the birds chirped away, perhaps arguing which way to travel since the weather was becoming more brisk by the day. The sun was fully awake now, shining brighter then ever and the sky was full with elegant clouds changing shapes every now and then. This world was really a stunning and admirable place that was created. It's like every day God decides to paint a new picture to display, and that picture is so exquisite, no one can match its alluring purity.

"Hey Kaliah, do you see that out in the distance or is that just my brain playing games with me?" Amber asked out of no where.

"And you say I need medical attention", I respond letting out a small laugh.

"No I'm serious", she says grabbing my head and turning it to the direction she pleased, "look over there!" She points.

"Oh my god!" I manage to utter.

The next thing that occurred happened so fast, I still don't believe it recurred. A big black van that you'd only see in the movies sped up to us and came to a halt. The door opened making a screeching sound and before my brain could register everything that was happening two men dressed in all black took Amber and put a black bag over her head. As pathetic as it sounds, I tried running away, but something hit me on my head and I fell to the ground. With hazy eyes I quickly got up, adrenaline rushing through me, but was led down by my body.

"AMBER!" I shouted, my throat burning from the impact, as the black van advanced down the road. They took Amber.

They took Amber.

Eyes turning blurry, the last thing I thought of was Amber being taken away and what I could've done differently, before everything went black.
