Tom is tired of following his popular best friend around. He doesn't like the loud parties and the drunk girls crashing at his place. He wants to stop the ugly things he does to fit in.
So he does.
It's pretty simple to divorce a friend. Just block their number and avoid eye contact, and pretty soon they'll know you for the jerk you are. Tom doesn't see anything wrong with becoming a social outcast. He has people to sit with at lunch and people to talk to in his classes. He's just getting used to a life without trying when he meets Amos.
Amos is smart. He can outsmart the school system and untangle himself from trouble in a blink of an eye. The one thing he can't escape are the religious bonds of his family, and their disapproval of his sexuality. He's just about done fighting.
That's when amazing things happen and he meets Tom and rainbows and I never know how to finish a summary.
