CHAPTER 2

“What?” Michelle shrieked.

I signed ‘shh’ at her because we are exactly at the library. Our librarian here is kind of strict and an old maiden. You wouldn't dare to make a noise.

“I told you he asked me whether if I would like to join him for lunch tomorrow” I told her.

“And you agreed?”

I nodded slowly and her eyes began to pop out.

“You what? Karen, you know how I don’t trust that James guy and you seek to have lunch with him tomorrow” and then she sighed out of frustration.

Yes! She hated James ever since. I don’t really know what the reason behind but I couldn’t really see what she hates in him. He’s a good guy, a gentleman to be exact.

He’s a good sport, a very athletic guy.

He is also a top honor student. He’s a very studious person too.

I don’t see something rude or bad about him. Maybe Michelle misunderstood him in some side or point.

“Look! I don’t know what is wrong having a lunch with James, it’s just a lunch.” I told her. She glanced at me with madness in her eyes.

“Or maybe he’s going to add you up to his list of girlfriends” she mockingly said. I was shocked to what she was thinking about James.

I know James is a popular athlete to all girls in this campus. And I bet it’s just a very depraved humour for them to make.

I sighed as a sign that I am defeated, I can’t argue with Michelle not in this rate that we are in a public place and of places in a library.

“I don’t want to debate with you Michelle but I’m going home. See you tomorrow”

I packed up all my things and headed outside the library. I was waiting a cab in the waiting shed when a black Ferrari car stops in front of me. At first I didn’t mind but when the driver’s door opened and a man got out, I just realized it was James. He smiled at me.

“Going home?”

“Isn’t it obvious? Why would I stand here If I’m not going home” I said and note the sarcasm. But I don’t think ‘sarcasm’ is in his dictionary

He just chuckled.

“I don’t have an idea; I just thought maybe you’re going to a mall or a fast food chain to eat dinner. There are so many reasons why you would stand under the waiting shed, one of those is going home” he said.

I felt heat coming up on my face. Well fine, he won. I didn’t mean to answer him that way. I’m still not cool with Michelle judging him like that.

“I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t reply to you that way” I said as I scratched the back of my neck because of shyness. The argument, I and Michelle had can't get off my mind.

“Don’t worry, I think you’re cute when you do that” I stopped what I am doing.

“What do you mean? The sarcasm tone I used to talked to you or the way I rubbed the back of my neck because I embarrassed myself in front of the hottest guy in school-“ I stop myself in completing the sentence and realized what I had said.

I looked at him with disbelief and then again I groaned out of frustration.

Stupid. Stupid Karen.

I thought to myself. I just confessed in front of the hottest guy in school that he is the hottest guy in school.

“Thanks for the compliment dear and I appreciate the red blush on your cheeks.” He said with a genuine smile.

I touched my cheeks and yes, they are burning hot. I can’t face him looking like a tomato.

“Don’t be shy, it fits on you. You look so cute when you blush”

I looked at him and unable to believe him. He just complimented me. James Derrick Thompson, the hottest guy on campus just said I look cute when I blush.

Happiness filled me and I think that’s the most stupid happened in my life. But even so, I feel great.

“T-thanks” I replied.

He’s looking at me intently and I can feel butterflies in my stomach again. But because of the awkwardness between us I broke my gaze off of him. And I heard him clears his throat.

“It’s getting late already, might as well come with me and I’ll take you home” he said while pointing to his car.

I arranged my glasses and unbelievable asked him “Are y-you sure?”

“A hundred percent sure” he said with a smile plastered on his face.

I can’t say no to my ultimate crush. Thank you Lord God!

I walked towards his car, I was going to open the door when he insisted on opening it and he let me get in first. Such a gentleman.

He closed the door and he walks around to get to the other side of the car. He got inside and before he started the engine, he looked at me. I feel conscious of myself again. He sneered and said “You should wear your seatbelt while riding a car”

I was about to reach for the seatbelt when he insisted on doing that. He reached it and I can’t believe that our face was almost close. I can smell his masculine perfume. I’m feeling like a pervert here.

“I might lose the scent because of you, devouring the fragrance of my cologne.” I opened my eyes and looked at him. He’s smiling like he did something triumphantly.

I felt my cheeks blushed again. He’s the first person who made me my face like a tomato in just one day.

“I find you entertaining. You’re not even joking but the thing that you are blushing, it feels like you’ve made my day.”

He drove off and while he was driving we were talking a lot of things. About his life and my life too. I have never shared my life to anyone else but Michelle. As I said, I am an anti-social person; I never get to have a chance to talk with others.

I don’t know what is wrong with me. It’s just I am perfectly fine with myself.

He stopped his car in front of my house.

“You didn’t tell me that you were a rich lady” he said.

I looked at my house or should I say mansion and then I glanced at him.

“My parents are the one who is rich, not me” I whispered enough for him to hear it.

I removed my seatbelt and grabbed the handle of the door, I looked at him and smiled “Thank you for bringing me home safe and I enjoyed your company. Well, we'll call it a night. Bye”

I was about to get out of the car when he grabbed my left hand.

“Is there a problem James?” I asked him.

“I was just thinking about the offer I asked you this morning… is it still available?”

Oh right! The lunch thing, it is not bad to take his offer right? I mean he’s a good guy.

I’ll prove Michelle that he’s not that kind of person.

“There’s no harm in having a lunch with you, so yes”
