Chapter 1: The dare begins
The bottle spins and spins and spins. It came to a slower motion and everyone waited with bated breath, who will the bottle land onto?
Finally, it stopped.
'So... Truth or dare, birthday girl?' my best friend, Jessie Walker asked me, smirking slightly.
'Truth,' I replied almost immediately.
"You are no fun!' Ashton Berth (Ash for short), my other best friend sulked as Jessie nods her head, her facial expression bored. I could tell why. We had been at the game for the past half an hour, and let me tell you, no one had opted for dare yet. Everyone had opted for truth.
Today is my eighteenth birthday, and my parents, who were away for an urgent business trip, couldn't celebrate with me. So here I am, with my best friends ever at Starbucks. We practically had nothing much to do, considering that we had went shopping for the whole morning already. (With much persuasion to convince Ash to tug along and be our designated driver because he whines that shopping makes him look ‘gay’ to other females)
'Says the person who still wears Superman boxers and, who opted for truth himself too,' I shot back and smile smugly at Ash. Ash shot me a death glare, making Jessie laugh. It was a truth question James decided to admit that he still wears his Superman boxers since thirteen and since then, Jessie and I had been taking every opportunity to embarrass him because of it.
'Okay, fine, truth it is then,’ Ash said 'So...when was your first kiss?'
As he popped the question, I felt my cheeks fume a little. I’ve never had a boyfriend before, much less been kissed in my life. You must been thinking, ‘Wow my mama. She’s a freaking eighteen and still have virgin lips!’ I’m not that bad-looking to not have a boyfriend, I’ll say I’m pretty average in looks. Standing at 5’6 feet tall, I have smooth brown chestnut hair and a pair of green emerald eyes. I guess I’ll blame it on the fact that I have no luck in the love/romance department. Hey, not everybody have soul mates right? Maybe I’m one of those women who are destined to be independent on herself and not have a man by her. Yeah, pretty sad right?
But, whatever. I don’t need a man too. I believe in being independent and successful. Anyway, love is too complicated. You have your typical high school player breaking hearts here and there, relationships going wrong, lust growing for someone else when you have your own half. At the thought of being a successful, independent woman, the faintest blush on my cheek wavered away.
‘I had never kissed anyone before, “I said, monotone, without a hint of emotion. I watched their reaction. Ash’s eyes widened and Jessie’s jaw appeared to literally drop.
‘Are you freaking kidding me Crystal Elizabeth Walter?! 'Jessie squeaked loudly, oblivious to heads snapping in our direction. 'You got this, killer body and pretty much the popularity of guys in school thought you were smoking hot too...'
My eyebrows shot up a bit. ‘Oh okay.’ Was my reply. I had nothing else to say. After all, maybe the boys said that only to get into my entrance and break my innocence. One have to always be on guard. I’m just merely taking precaution. Just like how you always need to take vaccine before going to another country or using a condom when having sex to avoid the girl getting pregnant.
You must be wondering, ‘Are your parents having a bad relationship to make you lose hope in guys? Or anything happened to your friends who are in relationship statuses? Or just simple anything to trigger such a negative thinking of you in boys?’ The answer is no. I simply look closely into their minds and figure out what they want. What’s more, I value my innocence a lot and I highly believe in sex after marriage. Call me a widow, old hag, old fashioned or whatever else, I don’t care. I stand firm in my faith and belief and I’m proud of that.
