"Scream I want to stay alive
Looks like I'll disappoint this time, you see you're dead
And you cry please enough
Enough for the both of us
You see, you're dead."
Yup, that's what I was singing while just taking a leisurely stroll into town, with my music playing and headphones in. This was a song that was stuck in my head all day called "Legends and Legacies" by the same band. Hey!!! Just because I LOVE Disney doesn't mean I don't listen to this kind of music. This band is my baby (plus a few others ;)).
It actually wasn't a bad day today, with the nice breeze in the air, the birds chirping in the trees, and the sounds of children playing around. It still doesn't mean I'm getting over this lazy mood that I have. Right when the song finished and I'm about to change it to "Fading Memories". I noticed something.
One thing about myself is once I'm distracted, I don't really pay attention to other things around me. That probably also explains why I ended up in apart of town that I've never been in. Much less have ever known to be existing. This whole part of town was almost in ruins. Everyone had apparently abandoned the town because of everything was rusted and old. There were boards on every store window and even rusted metal surrounding the store. "What the is -- is that a TUMBLEWEED!!!" I yelled. I mean seriously you would have been shocked too if you saw it. The town was pretty spooky, but other than that once you looked passed it, it seemed as though the town looked so lively. As I continued looking around letting my Nancy Drew side out, I noticed something. To the left of me was something I didn't expect. It was a small building, the paint had been chipped and faded out while an old creaky sign was hanging above the door. From what I tried to make out of it it was called "Wonderland of Books," it wasn't very legable because of how the "on" and "B" were missing while the rest were very faded. Time wasn't very good to the store along with the rest of the town. Honestly, I would have continued, but I needed to find a way back home.
Well shit. Ya, this day backed fired on me pretty badly. I was just supposed to have a relaxing day of sitting at home reading maybe a movie marathon and music, then my mom had to come in. Then after a couple minutes of walking I thought "Maybe this isn't a bad thing and today would be pretty good," but nope, now I'm lost, my phone is dead so I can't even listen to music to pass the time or pull up my GPS so I can find my way home and worst of all. I'M REALLY HUNGRY! I really am. The sun had begun to set off in the horizon and soon I won't be able to see where I'm going in this town. I continued looking around to find myself back where I started. "Ugghhh," I yelled in frustration. When I took a look to where the book store was, it looked brand new. The paint was fresh, the windows were no longer boarded up, but had an almost stain glass window, the sign was repaired and working completely fine with a sort sparkle to it that made it seem like someone threw pixie dust at it to make it seem magical. Everything about it looked completely normal as if nothing was wrong with it in the first place.
The thing that confused me the most was the one sole person casually walking around as if nothing unusual was happening, like he wasn't in a town that hasn't been inhabited by people for many years. He looked a little out of place in this town and that peaked my interest to a height that I couldn't ignore. They say "curiosity killed the cat", the thing is the last part to it that no one knew is "but satisfaction brought it back." That's my life motto and I'm not letting it go. So with that in mind my Nancy Drew side came out and I sneaked over there like the awesome ninja I am. While also praying that I don't trip over anything like that stupid tumbleweed! Right when I got to the door I peered in through the window making sure the man wasn't there before I entered in.
One step inside and I felt like I just walked in through Cinderella's Castle in the Magic Kingdom at Disneyland. It felt so magical, like everything is possible with just a snap of a finger. Just looking around I saw rows and rows of books. Looking at them they all seemed like classics, like the original copy along with a few new ones. While looking passed the shelves I noticed the a winding staircase that lead to the second story with more fabulous books, but what also looked to be an office with a sturdy oak door. To the right of me was a little booth with the cash register that help little trinkets behind it like dreamcatchers, beautiful wind chimes with feathers that seem to have came off the birds that Native American tribes used to worship, also.... laser guns? Yup laser guns. Weird, that's saying something coming from me, but okay not my store. Points for originality though.
I slowly started to walk more into the bookshop to get a better look at type of literature they possessed here. I closed my eyes and grabbed the first book I felt. Looking down, I never thought I would ever see it, but grab the first edition copy of "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. I've always wanted to read this novel and in my hand I'm holding a first copy in incredible condition that I did not feel worth to breathe the same air as it. Yes I know what I said, but like Pocahontas said "Ever rock and tree and creature has a life, has a spirit, has a name." So yes it does breathe so HA!! While I held it delicately in my hands I carefully thumbed through the pages and with each turn it had that fresh new book smell that amazed me to no end. Something I couldn't resist so I closed my eyes and just inhaled the smell. The thing is since I was focused on the smell I didn't really notice the presence sneaking on me until I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder.
