Where were the screams coming from then? I'm sure the screams were coming from the girl. Wind blew in from the flowing curtains, but when I went to close the window, I found out that there was no window. The breeze came again, slightly chilling me.

Something brushed against my arm and I let out a low shriek which led Hoover to come running inside the attic, barking and growling at nothing. I shivered. I shouldn't be alone in this house. Since my parents weren't going to be home anytime soon, I called my best friend, Destiny.

She was a great believer in spirits and loved coming over to my house to research spirits with my parents. She knew almost as much as my parents and she lived only one block away. Yes, I decided. I am going to call her.

"Hey, Destiny. What's up? Can you come over to my house? I need to show you something." I asked.

From the other end of the phone, there came a sleepy yawn.

"Courtney, don't you know that it is 11:00 P.M.?" she sighed and yawned again.

"It's really urgent. I need you come here right now." I replied. She agreed halfheartedly. Perhaps she could sense the urgency in my tone.

In 5 minutes, she was at my door still looking sleepy.

"What happened?" she asked me.

I took a deep breath. I was taking a chance telling her. I bet she would believe it, but I wasn't sure. There was a chance that she would think I was crazy and tell her parents to put me in an asylum. But I knew she wouldn't do that because she was my friend.

"There's a ghost in my house." Her eyes gradually widened and then she... smiled?

"I just got a message from The Other Side. The spirit giving the message told me that there was a ghost in your house and has been there for decades. It told me this: Follow the screams and listen to them. They're going to tell you their secret. The one that they have kept guarded since this house was built." she told me.

Well, that set an ominous tone over this house.

"Wait here. I'll be right back. I need to lock the house." I said quietly.

As I was heading back to the living room, I heard a gasp. Destiny was standing in front of the TV, looking pale.

"Courtney! Come here quickly!" she screamed.

That jolted me into action. I rushed over to her side. The Haunted House was on again, but it was showing something different. The villain in this movie, a middle-aged man, was standing on the screen, with a knife, laughing at the girl. He advanced toward her slowly, raising the knife threateningly.

She screamed once as the sharp knife plunged into her body and finished her off.

"Courtney, can you see that?" Destiny shrieked.

"Lower your volume and yes, I did see the man murdering the girl." I replied coolly.

"No, not that. Did you see the girl's face?" she whispered back.

"I've never seen the girl's face. I thought it was 3D or something because it has always been blurred for me. Did you see the girl's face?" I asked her. I had to know what the girl looked like. Destiny knowing what the girl looked like just raised my curiosity.

Destiny took a shaky breath.

"That girl... that girl's face looked exactly like..." Destiny paused.
