So We Meet Again

How it started

I pick up Amanda and spin her around and she squeals. I have just proposed. The ring on her small finger is the symbol of our love. Our family us standing around us, clapping and laughing as we celebrate. I finally put her back down on he ground and she smiles, looking into my eyes. I close the gap between us and kiss her with more love than ever before. But this moment was taken for granted.

Soon we hear a loud knock on the door, but we ignore it. Soon it grows louder, and faster. Eventually the door is broken down and strange men in metallic suits of armour walk in, pointing futuristic guns at us. Five of them usher our family out if the door and I try to run over, but the man in front of me pulls me roughly into place.

"What's happening?" I ask, as I stand up shakily.

"You can ask questions later!" He yells at me.

The two men who are left walk behind us and grab our arms. I look over at Amanda, she's already crying.

"Shut it!" The man behind her grunts.

She looks over at me as she almost sobs.

"Run. Go. Run." I mouth.

She shakes her torso around vigorously, in an attempt to break free. I do the same. She struggles out of the man's grasp and runs oit of the door as he takes out his weapon and proceeds to shoot in all directions. I'm still trying to free myself, but there are now two men holding me in place. I feel the second man hit me on the side of my head with his gun, and my world turns black.

I wake up much later, in a suit of metallic armour, like the men who captured me. There's a metallic gun in my hands too, just like those soldiers. I look around and see that I'm in a vehicle along with many other men and women. None of my family is there, amd neither is Amanda.

The man driving the van stops amd yells at us to stand up. As I stand, I feel the weight of the suit almost drag me down, but I do my best. When we get out of the van, I see that it's very late. I shield my eyes from the street lamps as much as I can as I look around, but neither my family or Amanda is anywhere to be seen.

"Excuse me! Excuse me! Do you know what happened to the Smith family?" I ask a woman walking past with a clipboard.

"Only the youngest and fittest are left alive. They're dead." She says through a heavy Texan accent.

Once I process the news I feel my tears flow out. My family, dead.

"What about Amanda Green?" I yell out as she almost walks away.

"Ugh, her. She ran away. Once she's found though, she'll be dead." She replies, taking out a cigarette and lighting it.

The news about Amanda relieves me. Hopefully she's still alive, and safe.

I look around again. I'm in a desert looking area, surrounding a humongous, circular tower. We are pushed inside by the same soldiers as before, and as we walk inside I smell the concrete floors and walls around me. We are lined up in a large room where I notice that there are about a thousand of us. A tall, muscular man walks into the room, and stands in front of a wooden podium.

"I know you all want to know why you're here. And that is because, we face war against the planet." I can hear whispers and gasps at this news. "Yes that's right. We are in the midst of a third world war. But we willtrain you. We will starve you. We will toughen you to the point of no return. And you will fight this war. For us!" He yells almost every word.

After he finishes his speech, a few people cheer, but most of us don't. I almost break down when I realize that Amanda might be in danger because of the war. I had already been crying, but at this news, I cry harder. We file out of the room and into a large chamber, the size of a football field. The room is lined with bunk beds and drawers. We choose the first bed we see and unload our belongings. I get changed like everybody else and finally wipe my tears. I climb into bed and simply stare at the ceiling.

After a while, you can hear snoring and heavy breathing. But I'm not able to sleep. Not at all. The only noise I make is a sob every few minutes. Soon, I am too exhausted to stay awake, and I let my eyes close.
