The sticky July heat settled over them like a too thick blanket. The thin sheet they rested on did little to quell the scratch from the roof of Harlow's barn. She and Lennox had been on the roof for hours now, watching the sky melt from the thick syrupy, reds and oranges to cool, blissful lavenders and deep blues. Fireflies twinkled neon green in the sky.
"Ya know what Lennie? The Princess and the Frog really fucked me up bruh." Harlow takes a hit of her blunt and lets the smoke slowly creep from her plump lips, her brown eyes twinkling at the sight of it enveloping a lightning bug.
"How?" Lennox stops eating the strawberry placed between her lips and looks over at her with a lopsided grin, watching her with awe. Sometimes she really can't get over how beautiful she is when she's like this. Her thick hair curly and wild splayed across the blanket, freckles smattered across her dark skin not unlike the sky above them.
"Remember when ol boy stepped on Ray and he turned into a firefly? I was only like seven when they came out. That was so brazy man." Her already soft voice lowers to almost a whisper and she looks over at Lennox with complete seriousness, her eyes wide and dilated before they burst into to snorting , gut-wrenching laughter.
"I ha-hate you so muuuch." Lennox hiccups in between laughter. She calms down a bit and leans over to press a sticky sweet kiss on her still giggling girlfriend's lips.
