Chapter One- Nightmares and Trenchcoats

I woke up with a start, drenched in a cold sweat, as usual I had the same dream, the same nightmare. It always came on the same day each month, a regular routine. It had started a year ago when I had turned 16. The nightmare that turned into a daydream at school and the nightmare that always mimicked the appearance of the man in the trenchcoat, the one every single soul in this town was warned against, the with the coat were midnight black wings with a blue hue whenever the light hit them. His wings stretched out behind him dwarfing his figure, while still giving him the same demanding presence he always gave off. He would just stand there and stare. But what disturbed me most is that he would always stare with piercing blue eyes and say, "fix her, she holds secrets that need to be uncovered, fix her for the story has to be told". I don't know what he means, I don't know who she is. All I know is that this man, one that exists in the conscious world, now plagues my dreams. the most feared person in town, is now haunting me in my dreams . In the middle of town stands a cathedral, tall and dark, it's stained glass windows depicting Angels fighting, but its largest showing an angel, large black wings stretched behind him, glowing blue eyes staring, the same man from my dreams, covered in blood with fallen angels at his feet. Today I will do it, today I will go up to that man and talk to him, even though we are advised to stay away, even though there is evidence presented of the fear he brings with, the destruction.

I shook my head and decided not to think about my dream and started to get ready for school. I got dressed into a random black tee-shirt and plain jeans and skipped down the stairs, my school bag bouncing against my back on every. As i went down I smelled the pancakes laid on the table in a neat stack.

"Morning'", I greeted as I put my bag on the table and sat down in my seat a huge stack of pancakes in front of me.

"Morning", dad replied in his usual gruff voice, not taking his attention away from the morning's newspaper.

My mother walked into the room with a bottle of maple syrup and sat Down next to dad, "What have I said about bags on tables, young lady" she scolded.

I took my bag off the table, rolling my eyes as I silently ate my breakfast, the maple syrup sweet on my tongue. I devoured my pancakes quickly only one pancake left on my plate as my little brother bounded down the stairs, his hair dripping wet, water falling off his hair and onto his t-shirt leaving a damp patch around his collar. The same shirt that was half untucked.

"You're going to get sick with your hair like that" I said to him matter of factly the words muffled as I spoke around the pancake in my mouth.

" And, you are not my mother" Jarsen replied back.
I stuck out my tongue to him in a reply, which he returned with the same gesture.

"Alright that's it, both of you behave, i'm off to work" said Mum checking her wrist watch. "Jarsen remember you're going to your Matt's house till saturday, when you get there remember to ask his mum to call me, understood?" she instructed as she picked up the keys to the car.
"Yes, I remember" he replied.
"Ok love you both, be good" she as she kissed us all on the forehead and walked over to the Garage.

"Does that mean you're dropping us off?" I asked dad, the direct question finally getting him to look up from the paper..

"Yes", he replied folding up his paper and concentrating on his breakfast fitting it all in his mouth in one go.

School isn't that far from home, then my brother vanished off to somewhere while I went to my locker to put away my bags and get the books for the first two lessons, a good novel, my pencil case and a bottle of water.

Just as I was about to shut my locker, someone shouted," Oi, Castellanos".

"Speak", I said without turning around to see who it was.

"Hey you still got the sheet that was given to us yesterday for PE?"

"Yes", I replied with a sigh, while turning to face the voice.

"Can I have it so I can photocopy, I promise I will give it back to you", Andy said with pleading eyes.

"May, and yes I suppose you can, I'm going to the library anyway, let's go and get it done", I corrected him.

And with that we both started making our way to the library.Andrew was the jock of our group, medium sized that consisted people of all sorts, we are a tightly knitted group always there for each other. We aren't bullied nor popular we're just normal (not really). Everyone talks to us maybe because they all benefitted from my smarts. Huh, I chuckled to myself.
Andy nudged me with his elbow, "what up?".

I shook my head and laughed aloud and said , "I was just thinking how nobody is rude to me because they all benefit from my smartass".

He sniggered, putting his arm around me, "Nah, it's because you have a big, hunky, top of the food chain male around you for most of the time", he smiked, gesturing to himself.

"Oh yeah, being best friends with Josh helps as well", I teased.

He gasped dramatically, "how dare you, put Hosh in front of me?", and with that he released me from his hold and crossed his hands over his chest,he started walking faster and left me behind.

I rolled my eyes and shouted, "I want my sheet back after you finish photocopying".
He ignored me and waited the photocopying line, while I went up to our table that was filled with chatter.

"Mells", everybody greeted.

"hey , everyone", I dropped my books on the growing pile and started my daily morning routine. Hugging everyone.I started going around the table in a circle. And finally sat down, some were talking about tv shows and movies, others that lastest news around the school, commonly known as gossip. Some studying for upcoming test, finishing off homework or assessments, while some were reading. Welcome to my group, commonly known as the mixed group, we were all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Before long Andrew came back with two sheets in his hand and passed me one.I looked at it closely and found it wasn't mine as mine had all the answers on the back of the sheet.

"This aint mine, mate" I stated, before he sat down next to Josh. He sighed and passed me the original copy.

When the rest of the group looked at him incredulously, he shrugged and replied, "worth a try".

"Dude, seriously, you should know better" said Baillie, "nothing goes past our Melody's, eyes".

"Ya, well except super hot guys trying to catch her attention" added Ahilya.

"hey , I know when they try to get my attention", I defended, " plus the key word is try, because I don't need men in my life to be successful".

Everyone rolled their eyes simultaneously. I looked at my watch, "alright the bell is about to ring and I'm gonna make my way up to homeroom see you at recess".
