Bethany Heather Smith

"Welcome to Roseville High." The middle-aged woman who sat behind the marble counter smiled pleasantly at me as I entered the building. I grinned, excited to be in a new location. Training is definitely the best part of being part of the team- so much better than on the battlefield and missions.

"Shall I show you around?" she asked politely. I nodded, appearing with a cool and collected façade. God knows, I'm freaking out. My third year of training! Every year, we have to travel to a new place to train, in order to gain the knowledge to pass the tests set for progressing on to higher levels. I was eager to begin my training, to learn new things. This area is specialized in teaching us about mystical creatures and myths. As a team member of the GO*****, we have to be equipped with skills to be able to fight. And keep yourself alive.

I was born and raised in Canada, but I've been to different places for training yearly, so far I have only been in Japan, California and now, one of the nine-hundred over towns in England. It's such a small town there is probably only one high school-but that means that our rivals are more unaware of our grounds.

"Miss Smith, please report on time tomorrow, at 8am. Have a nice day!" She gave a friendly smile, but her eager eyes gave her away. I offered another charming smile before stepping out of the office, and made my way towards the humble looking house at the border of the forest.

"Don't roam too far!" My "aunt", Felicia, who is in actual fact, my Trainer, yelled from the kitchen. I slammed the door in response as I strolled on the path in the forest. It was rather eerie, without anyone out here, while the town was bustling with activity, but I loved nature, the chirping of birds, the crunching of leaves beneath my feet as I swung the basket while I skipped merrily, looking for a place for a picnic.

It was only minutes later did I find a cliff that overlooks a river, with sunlight shining on it. It's the perfect place for a picnic, I grinned, as I set up my picnic before lying down on my elbows.

Faster. My blood pulsed through my body as my paws land heavily from my jump.

Her helpless cries reached me again. I urged my legs to go faster.

I burst through the clearing. There were wolves all around, growling and snarling as my pack advanced under my lead. But I couldn't see anyone.

Only her.

I woke up with a start. Wiping the cold sweat off my brow, I glanced out of the window. It was mid-afternoon and the weather was perfect for a run. Despite only having two hours of sleep, I was energized. I have to train to be stronger, to protect my pack better. It's my job. What alpha am I to not be able to care for my pack?

After pulling on some clothes over my boxers, I thundered down the stairs and headed for the door.

" You still blame yourself, don't you? " Genevieve's soft voice interrupted my plans for training myself. "It's not your fault, why can't you understand that? I miss my elder brother..." she trailed off, with a look of longing in her baby blue eyes.

"I need to practice. It's for the benefit of the pack. " I replied, devoid of emotion. She looked at me with sadly. I got out of the house and walked into the forest. She won't understand, I thought as I removed my clothes, how it's too tiring to have feelings, to love.

I kept my clothes in a hole in a tree before concentrating on my dark grey wolf. Seconds later, fur sprouted on my skin. Bones cracked and my stout came into view.

Genevieve messed with my feelings, I thought, as I made my way to my favorite spot - where I can think in peace. No one knows that spot, only Jan. They will not understand why that place is so sacred to me, why I am so possessive of that cliff.

"Grrr"

A growl was sounded. Stunned, I spun around and saw a wolf. A humongous black wolf. It was probably the size of a small horse, and it was crouched in a position ready to fight. I kept my eyes on the wolf, and feigned a frightened look as my right hand reached for my ------ gun that was strapped to my thigh. My body was positioned such that the wolf could not see my right hand, and mislead him to think that I was still in a state of shock.

It's a full grown male wolf too. Just look at its size. Just my luck. If I get any luckier, it will probably be the alpha too. How awesome. Not.

Another growl was sounded.

It was only then I froze. It wasn't because I caught sight of its pierced ear, or blue eyes. It was the shivers that were sent down my spine. I may not have learnt the whole subject, but I do know when you feel aroused by a wolf who could potentially kill you in a minute, it only meant one thing.
