A/N - Welcome to the first rewritten chapter of "On the Side of the Angels". I have added a bit more description and such. If you have any questions or suggestions, please comment. I want to make this story the best I can for you.
Two angels stood in front of a window looking in on the newborn babies. They were invisible to the humans around them, except for the baby staring at them.
Celeste Deacon, the card on the bassinet read.
"This is wrong Gabriel and you know it", Castiel said to his fellow angel.
"Oh, lighten up Castiel", Gabriel told him, "Admit it. She's cute".
The little girl had fine blonde hair and golden eyes, something that was rare since most babies were born with grey or blue eyes. To Castiel and Gabriel, it was a clear sign of her heritage.
"She shouldn't exist", Castiel said.
She wasn't just a normal baby girl, but the daughter of an angel and a human making her a Nephilim. Half breeds that had been killed off years ago in the flood. Yes, THAT flood.
"But she does. Father gave us orders to take care of her and watch over her", Gabriel said, "C'mon. It'll be fun!" He teleported into the room.
"Gabriel!" Castiel snapped as Gabe leaned over Celeste.
"Hello there, little one. My name is Gabriel. I'm going to be your guardian angel".
"She's a baby. She can't understand what you're saying", Castiel said, appearing next to him.
"This is Castiel. He's a stick in the mud, so I know I'm going to be your favorite", Gabriel said, as Celeste wrapped her little hand around his finger.
"You're not going to be her favorite anything. We're here to protect her and watch her, not interact".
Gabriel ignored Castiel and cooed to Celeste, making her smile and giggle.
Castiel rolled his eyes, but couldn't deny that the little girl was cute. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
*5 years later*
Castiel and Gabriel sat at a park, watching Celeste as she played.
"Dude, if we weren't on a mission, this would be so creepy", Gabriel said.
Castiel just stared at the little girl, silently wishing that the archangel sitting next to him would shut-up.
Gabriel never shut up about Celeste. Gabe was the one who spent most of his days with Celeste, watching the little girl and following her and her family around, while Castiel was often stuck with the night shift.
It was rather boring watching a young girl sleep.
Castiel was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice that Gabriel had moved.
He was now sitting next to Celeste while she played in the sandbox.
Celeste smiled up at Gabe and opened her mouth to say something to him.
Gabriel shook his head and placed a finger over his lips.
Celeste nodded and went back to playing. She wasn't allowed to talk to Gabriel when they were outside her room. At home, she could just pretend she was talking to her stuffed animals when she was really talking to Gabe. Celeste looked over at the angel sitting on the bench under the tree.
His brows were furrowed as he stared down at his hands.
Celeste's parents took her to Sunday school, so she always believed in angels, even before Gabriel and Castiel revealed themselves to her. Celeste liked Gabriel, but she thought it was odd that the other angel wouldn't talk to her.
He barely even looked at her. But in reality, when Gabriel wasn't there, Castiel was.
Celeste's mother always told her that angels were watching over her and she was right.
Castiel was the one who watched over her as she slept. There would be times where she would wake up in the middle of the night and find him sitting in her bay window, staring up at the stars. Maybe he missed heaven and that's why he always seemed so sad.
"Celeste! Come eat!" her mother called.
Celeste stood up and brushed the sand off her pants with her tiny hands. When she looked up, Castiel was looking at her. She gave him a small smile and waved goodbye to Gabriel, before running over to her mother and father.
Celeste wanted Castiel to be her friend like Gabriel was, but maybe he just needed some more time.
In the coming years, Castiel and Celeste would become closer than anyone expected.
So what did you think?
