"You can't skip it again! You'll be kicked out!" Alison cried.
"Maybe I want to get kicked out!" Dylan replied angrily.
She gasped. "What are you saying?"
He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. "The only reason I joined was to get you off my back about it."
Alison's tears finally slid down her face. "Are you serious?"
Dylan looked away.
"You lied to me."
No reply.
Then a though dawned on Alison. In a trembling voice she asked, "Where have you been going?"
"I've only been going back home. I'm not meeting anybody," he replied gently, knowing what she was implying. "And I leave a couple minutes before you get home and take a drive around the block."
Silence echoed between them.
"You really don't like it, do you?" Alison's cracked voice broke the quiet.
Dylan looked at his shoes. "No. I really don't."
He heard some shuffling. And when he looked up Alison had her raincoat on. "What are you doing?!"
She faced the door. "I'll be back to pack tomorrow." And opened the door and left. Dylan listened, stunned, as her car started and pulled out of the driveway.

Still crying, Alison dialed her friend Jess' number. It rang and rang until it took her to voicemail. She hung up.
Is this the end of us?
She pulled into the empty parking lot of a darkened diner and turned the car off. After a minute Alison leaned on the steering wheel and began to sob.
What have I done?
Light swept past her window and she looked up. Another car was pulling in.
She watched as the door opened and Dylan climbed out and started walking towards her car.
Feeling a rush of relief, Alison jumped out of her car to meet him. She gave him a hard hug, and his arms immediately circled around her tightly. Pulling back a little bit, Alison reached up and kissed him.
Dylan pulled back first, and rested his forehead on Alison's. "I'm sorry."
"No, I should've asked you."
"I should've talked to you."
"I would've listened."
"So would I."
It was quiet except for the crickets, as they took eachother in.
"Let's go home," Dylan whispered.
"Okay."
Neither of them moved.
"A- are you going to drive your car?" Alison asked.
"Yes, and you are going to drive yours."
"Separate?"
"We can't leave a car here, Alison." He sounded serious. "You have to drive yours and I'll drive mine."
They listened to the crickets.
"I thought this was the end of us," Alison said softly.
Dylan's arms tightened around her. "The end of us won't be for a long while, Alison."
"Good."
