Chapter 1
All I ever wanted is just to be a normal teenager, a normal daughter and a normal student without this stupid gift/curse that I have. Going to school without seeing them die in my visions, going home without seeing the repetitive deaths of my family, and hanging out with my friends without warning them of their deaths and making fun of me.
They all see me crazy. I talk about their deaths and they just make good old joke about it. How I wish I’m just crazy with this stupid visions. How I wish to see my world not in a brutal way. Why me?
Sitting in a bench and out of nowhere I was hit by a crumpled paper. This is their way of saying that I am a freak. How stupid. I picked up the crumpled paper and looked around but no one was around so I opened the paper and saw a letter inside.
Hi Mia,
I would like to meet you in the Dessert House
for dinner around 7pm. Hope you come.
x Anonymous
A love letter? Nahh. This is a strange letter, throwing it to me instead of showing his or her face to me.
Just around the corner, I saw a silhouette hiding and disappeared immediately after looking. This is super strange again.
I decided to meet up with this anonymous person just to let my curiosity die with him or her. Opps. I am being mean about people dying but I am so used to seeing them die in my visions.
I sighed and made my way to the Dessert House since its 6 in the evening.
While walking I kept on seeing people pass by and looking straight in their eyes to see their deaths. All I did while walking was chant what will happen to them when they pass by.
“Hit by a car” the next one passes by, “Heart attack,” “Suicide,” “Asthma,” and etc. I reached dessert house 6:30 pm. Maybe I’m too excited to come here and see this anonymous whoever. Anyways, early bird catches worm, I’ll just wait inside instead.
I choose the furthest table in the Dessert House, so I can see all the people coming in and go of the diner. I sat down and called for the waiter to jot down my order. I asked for a strawberry parfait and a grilled pork steak with extra gravy for my dinner.
In the Dessert House, there is this bell that rung to inform employees of new costumer. The bell rang 4 times already and my anonymous is still not here. Is this a prank? At least I tried to come and see. It’s nice to have dinner outside once in a while so it’s not that bad to come and be tricked. I glance in the clock and saw that it was just 6:55. I told myself that I was just too early that I am getting antsy about this anonymous.
When the clock struck 7, the bell in the diner rang and I peeked at the door with this nervous vibes in me. But no one was there when I looked. Then someone touches my shoulder and I got scared that I almost screamed.
“Sorry, did I scare you?” he asked when I looked at him.
The guy in front of me is so, I don’t know, mysterious maybe. His eyes are the color of the sky, a sharp jaw line and luscious lips you would love. I can’t stop looking at his eyes; they say so many things about him that makes him mysterious in a way.
“Not really.” I answered after a long pause.
“I wrote that letter. Sorry if I did not personally approach you.” He looks sincere.
“What business do you want?” I rudely asked.
He smirked and I felt a tight knot in my stomach. “Actually, I am interested in you. I want to know more about you. Anyways, my name is Jack. Jack Rose.”
“Jack Rose. What you just stated in front of me seems to be off. I cannot accept that reason of yours just to meet me here. So, I wanted to know what your business is.” I insisted.
“You see, Mia. I am a very mysterious man who just came into your life and is interested in you. Why not give me a chance?” he is really persistent.
“I cannot accommodate you with your request. Thank you and if you’ll excuse me, I’ll transfer a different seat for me to eat.” I immediately stood up and walked when he grabbed my hands and I saw everything.
First was a black abyss, he was inside the abyss calling my name again and again. Swallowed by a ring of fire I’ve never seen in my life. Screams until he was no screaming anymore, I can see him melt in the middle of the fire. It was only his bones; pointing in my direction he said in a harsh voice, “you are the one”. Then he fire was blazing and exploded in my vision.
I immediately pulled my hand away from him gasping from what I saw. What was that? The one? Who is he?
“Who are you really? What are you?” shakily asking.
“I am Jack Rose. Thought I already said it. And why ask me what I am?” he looks clueless.
Am I only imagining that scene? It’s impossible because all my visions are right. I stare directly in his eyes but I cannot see anything. Only darkness.
“What do you want from me?” I whisper shout at him.
“I want to know your more. You’re interesting, Mia. You piqued my interest the first time I saw you.” He’s now smirking and it’s freaking me out. “Sit down if you may.”
I slowly sat down in front of him. He kept on staring at me and I hate it. “What the hell do you want from me? I saw something from you. What do you mean by The One?” his smirk slowly faded and was changed into a straight face which I didn’t recognize was him.
“What do you mean by The One?” he was making it sounds like he doesn’t know anything. I got nervous because the ambiance in the dessert house is changing.
I got scared because of his tone. “No. It’s nothing. Sorry.” This is the best way to keep silent about what I saw.
My food was served with its sizzling sound and my strawberry parfait topped with cherry. The ambiance was back to normal and he doesn’t have the threatening face before. I lowered my head so that I’ll not be staring at him and started eating my parfait first. “Mia, can I ask you something?”
“You’re already asking.” Out of nowhere he genuinely smiled at me. Come to think of it, he is attractive in a way. Way too attractive for me to just go out with him.
“You’re staring at me.” He chuckled with this weird and attracting sound I had ever heard in my life. As a good person, I smiled back at him.
“I’m not staring, I’m looking at you because we’re talking.” This is interesting.
“You see, you’re different from the people I came to meet. So I’m asking if you’re okay if I can get to know you better?” he seems nice but I am scared from what happened before. I continue eating my parfait and left the spoon inside my mouth and nodded in his way. Removing the spoon and scooping another parfait inside my mouth he immediately grabbed my hand. “Thank you for giving me that chance.”
I don’t know. Maybe giving him that chance is what I’m looking for.
