-Emma's POV-
I really didn't know what to except, really it just happened so fast. I have been known to excel at my jobs, giving me a partner or someone to along was more like a joke really. It was like a putting a one year old partnered with a scientist assigned a project to do. They'd all know who'd do the work, having the partner was pointless. But, there was someone I used to know, he'd give a good reason why even the best of people need that extra someone. I was only a mere child at the time, but his smile, his world. It was everything I had ever wanted to have, to be, he was my mentor in life.
He smiled, laughing brightly with that perfect smile, "Remember Emmie! No matter how good you are, and think you don't need someone with you, lie to yourself all you want but it's our nature. We are humans after all, remember that. We all have strengths, but us humans we can only go so far. You might not feel it, or know it. But someday, your strength will be of no use anymore, and you will be weak."
I frowned, "Weak? Why would you want to be weak? Being weak, it shows everyone how much of a failure one is or has become."
He smiled once more, laughing lightly as he gently grabbed my chin and gazed at me, "Oh my dear Emma, weakness is wonderful. You just need to go through all it's bad, and once that is over, you'll soon realize what it's like. You will feel pain, you will suffer. I even guarantee it. However, once you go through all that, you'll soon find someone or something. They will help you continue, maybe take your place someday. It goes two ways; the hard way, and the harder way."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, oh so innocently.
"The first way, it's easy to explain but hard to actually do it. When you realize how much pain and suffering you have went through, you'll be tired- very tired. Your time in this world is up, but you have yet to complete your mission in life. So, you find someone with a similar dream. A mission like you're own. You help them succeed, treat them properly. You'll be happy, Emmie. Very happy. Even if you never accomplished what you want in life, at least you helped someone with the same thing."
"What about the other way? The harder way?" I asked another question.
"Oh..." He sighed, putting a finger to his lips, "It's complicated, I can't explain it very well. This way must be experienced, and sadly I never have- or will for that matter." He looked down at me, smiling bright again, "You see, some days in your life you'll be cold. The pain and suffering was too much for you, and so to put all that away, you put on armour. The armour will protect you, but like all armour in the world, they're not meant to last long on you. One way or another, you're armour will break. Not because of the pain and suffering was too much, it was because someone took it off you. You'll know one day. You'll find someone, someone just like you. You'll see so much in them, they could be your exact copy and it will scare you. You barely know this person, but he or she will know you like the back of their hand. In other words, that person will be able to read you; you'll be an open book. You will both suffer the pain and torture. You'll feel each other's suffering. From that, you'll grow even stronger. Together, you'll be unstoppable. You two against the world."
I was in awe, my mouth suddenly forming an o shape and tilted my head, a question thundering through my head, "What is that called, Liam?"
He smiled, putting his hands to my cheeks, "Love, Emma. It's called love. Something I can never have. My time's up, I gotta go..." He lifted himself back up, turning around and about to leave me again.
