Birthday Call

He wakes up to his phone ringing. He looks at his phone and it says "Dad". Its His dad calling to wish him a happy birthday and tells him he loves him very much. He says other things that made the boy smile and the conversation went on... He then says he will try and go over his house to see him during his lunch time.
(His parents are separated)
He is so happy to hear those words because he feels as though he doesn't spend enough time with his father or been close to him as he was when he was a young kid and Things Were different. But as the evening started turning into the night, he knew he wasn't going to show and he didn't want to call because he didn't want to bother. Nor did he want to seem desperate.
{Even though he said he'd "try" and see him, he really expected for his father to show up and spend at least a few minutes with him . But he thinks to himself, "it's okay I don't care".}
