He sat in the corner of his basement. The cold cement floor was only making his goose bumps worse. The sound of the undead was even closer now. He heard from above blood curdling screams. He wanted to help, but he was frozen with fright. By now his family was probably dead and there was nothing left for him now. After a moment of grief, he took up all of his might and got ready to burst out of the basement. He knew he had no chance of survival, but it wouldn’t matter now that everyone was dead. He charged for the door, when a giant skeleton ripped the door off of its hinges and threw it behind him.
Its breath was as disgusting as an orc’s, and eyes as deadly as a raven’s. He stood there astonished as the skeleton lifted up its ancient stone axe. Any second he would have been another villager dead. Then out of nowhere the skeletal giant caught on fire and within seconds was to ashes. He came out of the cellar and saw a kid that was probably around his age, 14, slaying some undead. Even though he was a mage he knew that he wouldn’t last long against an entire undead army.
His father had an old sword that he kept from when he worked as a knight. If he could get it then he could help the mage. He went inside and couldn’t bear to look at his family. Their bodies were strewn across the floor in a bloody mess. After a moment he found his dad’s weapons cabinet. He pulled out a rusty iron sword and some leather armor. It wasn’t the best thing, but it’s what he had.
He came outside and saw the undead had surrounded the mage. He started to surge with anger and ran at the undead. The first undead he swiped its head clean off in one blow and the rest he stabbed and slashed to death. He didn’t want anyone else to die, and he was going to make it stay that way.
He got up to the mage and helped him up. He introduced himself as Xavier of Baile. The mage introduced himself by the name of Yage. He told him he knew about the undead invasion and how he arrived too late to warn them. Yage had a white robe with a blue trim and a white wizard hat. He also had a small knotted staff with a shiny blue sapphire on top. Xavier asked him about the invasion and Yage replied “They must have been after something that would be of use to them.” He thought about it for a second and asked Xavier “Is there something that they might have been after that would cause someone to do something like this?” Xavier replied “There is the town’s gem, but I am pretty sure that’s only for display.” Yage was shocked and said “Your town still has its gem?” Xavier scoffed and said “Yeah, why wouldn’t we have our gem.” Yage explained to him that the towns were being raided and having their gems stolen. Xavier replied “That makes sense that is probably why they invaded, but why would they want the gems aren’t they supposed to just symbolize the towns.” Yage replied “Yes, but if you combine them together then they create a portal to the underworld.” “Xavier replied “The undead must be trying to get back to the underworld.” Yage said “That all makes sense, but how did they get here?” Xavier replied “They must have gotten in through a portal during one of their attacks on Kaiden, and then the portal must have closed with them still here.” Yage started to walk away when Xavier stopped him and said “Where are you going?” Yage scoffed and replied “To Orctown. It’s the next town over and it has the blood ruby. The rest of the skeletons fled from here with your towns gem when they had the chance, so that must be their next objective.” Xavier replied “There is no chance that you’ll survive though.” Yage paused to think and said “Yeah, but I have to try. You should come too; you have exceptional sword fighting abilities.” Xavier stopped for a second, thought about it realized there was a slight chance that he would make it if he helped him and said “Alright, but we should get some more people to help us. We won’t be able to do this alone you know.” Yage smiled and said “That’s the spirit, but we should hurry on our way to Orctown though. This time we are going to get there early.”
