* Chapter 3 *
Grell's POV
I shook snow out of my hair and peered down at the shirtless boy in-front of me. God, he was sexy. He had abs of steel. He had glossy black raven hair. He had cold and unforgiving dark blue eyes and the most defined bone structure I had seen in a long time. I could cut myself slapping that face...
"What?" He asked, staring at me. I snapped out of my reverie.
"What?"
"You said something about a face." He said, looking slightly annoyed.
"This place..." I said loudly, flapping my arms. "It's a bit chilly, isn't it?" I looked towards Juvia for help. "Isn't it?"
"Juvia thinks so." She said, nodding vigorously. I turned away and allowed a brief moment of self-hate. Then, carefully composed, I faced them once more. Gray stood up and cocked his head. I could tell that he was trying to puzzle me out.
"You're a Grim Reaper then?" he asked. Juvia appeared behind him. "You seem very... uhh..."
"Fabulous?" I suggested, a grin forming on my face.
"You said it, not me." He said, grinning back. "I would like to ask you a favor, actually." I raised an eyebrow.
"And what would that be?"
"I want to fight you before Natsu gets a chance. So that I can say I beat a Death God and rub it in the hot-head's face." Juvia grabbed hold of his arm.
"Gray-sama, why!" she wailed. "You'll get hurt!"
I sighed and shrugged, trying to look as though I didn't care less. Inside, I was fizzing.
"Of course darling," I replied, batting my eyelashes. "I'll make you as lovely as scattered rose petals."
Gray's POV
I readied myself for battle, watching as Grell flicked his hair over his shoulders and gave me a little wave.
"Shall we begin?" he asked.
Juvia tried to drag me away. "Please don't Gray-sama! Please!"
I shook her off. "I'll be fine, okay?" I said. Then, not giving myself any more time to think, I charged at my opponent.
I couldn't explain it. One moment he was there... and then he wasn't. I gasped as I felt a high-heeled boot drive into my side. I flipped in the air, only to be caught on the side of my face with a punch so hard I thought it would have knocked all my teeth out. I swung my arm at him, to dazed to try any magic, but Grell jumped backwards, landing gracefully and silently on the snow covered stone.
I sat down heavily and regarded him from the floor. "You bastard..." I said wonderingly. He just stretched and examined his nails. I sucked in a breath through my bruised lips and staggered to my feet.
"There's just no putting you down, is there?" I heard him say. "That would have killed most people."
"I'm not most people."
"Well, I suppose I'll just have to give you my special treatment then."
I sighed and took stance. I was not going to make the same mistake of getting in close. That was just to dangerous. "Ice make lance!" I shouted, sending deadly weapons the way of the Grim Reaper. Then I heard a roar and, beside me, Juvia let out a little scream.
My ice shattered, exploding into fine crystals. Grell lept towards me.
And in his hands was a chainsaw.
I jerked back in terror, and slipped on the snow. I landed with a thump, just in time to see the whirring blade plunge down towards my throat.
Juvia's POV
I couldn't watch Gray's end. I just couldn't.
I hid my face in my hands, waiting for the crunch that meant it was all over. Tears began to fall down my cheeks, collecting on the tip of my nose.
"You BASTARD!"
I jerked my head up to see Gray sitting on the floor, still in one piece. I stared at him. Grell reached out a hand and pulled him to his feet.
"Did you really think I was going to kill you?" he asked, a smirk on his lips. "God, I only just got my baby back after the Jack the Ripper incident. And Will... I would never hear the end of it."
I let out a dry sob of relief. Gray looked over at me and jumped to his feet. A second later, I felt his strong arms wrap around me.
"Juvia! Please don't cry! Look, I'm alive and pratically unhurt."
I gulped and he pressed me tighter to him. A second later, I felt his hand start to stroke my hair. "Please don't cry." He whispered as his shoulders started to shake.
I shut my eyes and waited for us both to stop shedding tears. And after a few minutes, I heard the clicking that meant Grell was walking away.
