Today was the day I've been dreading the most. Today I would have to defend Jamal in court. The "what if's" started to kick in. My mind was traveling a mile a minute. And to make matter's worse, Peyton was the only thing on my mind. Which was gonna make it difficult to focus on the case. I drew in a deep breath to relax my nerves and focus.

The door to the room I was in opened I ignored it concentrating on my breathing. I felt small hands slide up my back suddenly. I jumped from the surprise. I turned around to see who it was. Peyton. I smiled wearily at her as she returned the gesture. I looked around the room to avoid the eye contact with her.

Two day's ago after my brother revealed he was having a baby Peyton questioned me about wanting a baby herself. I was shocked on how she randomly wanted a baby. Peyton and I been dating since we were 13. Now 7 years later she wants a baby!!!! As selfish as it may seem I ain't ready for no baby. I'm still young I just started my career in law. I had my whole life ahead of me... Maybe in the future, I'll wanna have a baby. Peyton and I never talked about having kids we talked about marriage, but never kids. I turned my attention back to Peyton. I watched as she played with her fingers a habit she does when she's thinking

"Peyton," I called out to her. She broke her concentrated stare from her nails to look at me.

"You know I love you... Right?" I asked breaking the awkward silence. She nodded her head "yes". I stepped closer to her.

"You know I'll do anything for you, Right?" I questioned her again. She responded again by nodding her head "yes".

I pulled her in my arm's.

"Babe, we ain't baby material yet. You still in college and I just graduated. I hardly have time for myself. Where am I supposed to fit a baby in my schedule? We ain't ready right now. Maybe later on in the future, we'll be ready." I rubbed my thumb against her cheek after speaking. She nodded her head "yes" before wrapping her arms around my neck kissing me.

Knocking on the door interrupted our moment. Trey appeared behind the door signaling me it's time. I thanked him before he left. I kissed Peyton one last time before telling her we'd continue the conversation later.

I walked out the door down the hall along with Trey. I guess Trey could sense my anxiety, he asked me "if I was ok." I looked over at him and responded yes.

I stood in front of the door. My nerves started fucking with me again. Trey gave me a playful nudge lighting up the mode. I pushed the heavy wood door open a few people were already sitting. I walked to the front where Jamal and I would sit. I spotted Ms.Johnson reading her Bible quietly to herself. Breaking her attention from her reading she smiled at me before mouthing "Hi". I did the same. Peyton and Trey entered sitting beside each other. Peyton shot me a small smile that eased my mind a little.

The door by the side of the court room opened out came a young man. He looked around 17 or 18. In my opinion, he looked younger than what he is. The Orange Jumpsuit laid on his tan skin and his face looked paler than when I saw him awhile ago. He and his mother made eye contact he sent her a smile.

Walking over to the table where I was at. Jamal took a seat he didn't even bother to greet me he just sat down. I took in a deep breath to calm my rising anger.

Great my client is disrespectful as fuck. He better fix his attitude before I knock it out of him.

We met up plenty of times before to help prove him not guilty and even then he was very quiet. This made it even more hard to defend him not guilty. Pushing my pride aside I tapped his shoulder to get his attention. Jamal looked over at me with a blank expression. Ignoring his rudeness I stuck my hand out for him to shake.

Jamal looked at down at my hand as if it were infected. Finally, approving my hand he placed his cold frail hand in mines. I could've sworn I saw him smile a little showcasing his silver and blue braces.

Just as Jamal warmed up to me the judge walked through the judge chambers sitting in his chair. I squinted my eyes at the judge trying to identify him. I soon reorganized who he was. My uncle Terry. He and my father were really great friends. Uncle Terry was actually the first judge to work with my father in court. As if he could read my mind he soon sent me a smile. I did the same to him.

This might be easy.

5 hours later-

The trail ran longer than usual. But it was worth it. Jamal was found not guilty and the charges were dropped. It felt really good to see my hard work pay off. Jamal and his mother walked over to me both smiling brightly at me. Jamal did something that shocked the hell out of me. He hugged me. Pulling away he regained his posture and said: "thank you." Ms.Johnson repeated the same thing to me. They both said goodbyes. I smiled at them they walked through the glass door. I heard someone yell my name behind me. I turned around to see who was calling me.

My eyes met with Peyton as she waved to me happily before she took off running to me. She was running fast as hell in them heels. Catching up to me she jumped on me I spun her around while she laughed happily in my ear. I put her down Peyton face broke into another huge grin before kissing me.

"Jaycean, I'm so proud of you baby. You did it. You won your first case." Peyton said in a gleeful voice. I smiled at her. Trey eventually met up us and said "congratulations" to me.

After packing up my paper's we left out to go celebrate.

After, leaving my favorite restaurant, Blessed, me, Peyton and Trey spit up after dinner, were now headed home. Although the ride home, Peyton would look at me and smile. I act like I ain't peep her staring at me like a creep.

I drove my BMW into the driveway. I hopped out after turning the car off jogging over to Peyton side I opened the door for her. She thanked me before I held her hand walking to the front steps. When me and Peyton reached the front door I was shocked to see dead roses on the steps with a note attached to it.

I bent down to pick up the rose's but what was on the envelope made me scrunched my eyebrows together.

A lipstick stain was printed in the middle.

I scrunched my eyebrows together again wondering who would do this
