"Guess you can say you's the one I trusted who would ever think that you would spread like mustard? Shit got hot you sent feds to my spot""You bet not" Mecca came up behind her and said scaring the shit out of Ziya.
"Mecca what the fuck?" she hit the power button on the speaker and turned to look at him. She had come over to her apartment for few days so she wasn't expecting him. Not that she minded she just wished he would understand the concept of call before you come. Whenever she actually did come to her apartment it was always for some alone time.
Especially since she had been over the flu she just wanted to rest in solitude."My bad, you was in here jammin' hard tho" he laughed thinking of how into the song she was.
"Shut up I'm a biggie and lil kim fan to death okay? What are you here for?" Ziya turned off the burners on her stove and plated the eggs, sausage and toast she had made.
"Damn none for me?" Mecca was already trying to steal some of her sausage but she slapped his hand away.
"If you would call, you could have gotten a plate now tell me why you're here?"
"No reason, I'm about to go pick up Caliyah. Her mama through her a party this weekend." Ever since Aaliyah's fight with her boyfriend Cali had been staying exclusively with Mecca. But since her seventh birthday was the following weekend he had allowed Aaliyah to throw her a party and he was going to give her one as well on her actual birthday.
"I hope she had fun, she is so spoiled. Getting two birthdays and shit."
Mecca nodded since she was right, but he didn't mind Caliyah was his baby girl so it was all worth it. "Did I tell you Denim was at dinner the other day?"
Ziya's looked up from her plate with a surprised expression "stop lying?"
He shook his head "no she pregnant as fuck too."
"Did you say something to her?"
"I did, but she said some shit that really fucked with me. she said I took her best friend."
Ziya's face fell as Denim's voice echoed in her mind saying those exact words. Ziya knew how horrible of a friend she had been. She was aware of her wrong doings but at the same time Denim always acted like she didn't need anyone so for a while Ziya thought she was doing what Denim wanted by staying away. Denim had been and probably would always be the stronger one of them, in Ziya's mind Denim had it under control but obviously not.
Ziya didn't know anything that was going on in Denim's life, she had no idea how the baby was doing or when she was due. Ziya knew regardless of what assumptions she had made about Denim not needing her she should have been there for her.
"I feel so bad" Ziya said honestly.
"Yall need to talk."
"How? She doesn't want anything to do with me Mecca, I left her hanging" she choked on her words as tears built up in her eyes.
"I need a moment" she wiped her eyes as she walked away from him and went into her room. Ziya locked the door behind herself as she fell face first into her bed.
"Ziya" Mecca knocked on her door.
"I'm good Mecca, I just wanna be alone. I'll see you later."
"You sure?"
She didn't respond and he soon got the message. Ziya waited until she heard her front door close to roll over onto her back and look up at the ceiling. She wanted to call Lina or Imani but they had been working doing hosting jobs all over the place. They hadn't been in contact with Denim either.
