Dylan's POV
I sighed as I was escorted to my car. It irked me that I had to be escorted everywhere. I was an important vampire in the society though. It would make sense to protect me. I chuckled to myself, noting the selfishness and major egotistical sound of the sentence.
"Sir? Where shall we go?"
"Take me to VNS. Whichever one is closest. I need some blood," I respond casually. I had just gotten to the U.S. two days ago, which meant I had gone close to three days without blood. I could go a week but it wasn't preferable with all the human life here. I would eventually snap and kill people. It was a rather unfortunate way of life so I tried to get blood when I thought it was necessary.
I looked at the door and noticed a scuff mark. I turned my head towards the back of the passenger seat and saw some claw marks. I smirked, immediately knowing what it was. My driver, Nate, had brought his girlfriend to the car for a quickie. I laughed a little, knowing that their kids were probably a little suffocating at times, especially since Nate was a vampire that survived on sexual energy. Poor guy, getting cockblocked by his own kids.
"Sir, we've arrived at the closest one."
I looked up at the building through the tinted windows. Not bad, I thought. The building was big, a lot bigger than the ones in London but it was less needed there. Though the population was pretty big, most of the people living there were humans. The need shops weren't required to be as big.
Studying the building closer, I noticed the color was a blood red. Ironic and kind of rude. The building itself was very modern looking, almost like a mansion. It was quite beautiful really. I was amazed that someone would spend that much money on vampires. It was common knowledge that the people that made the VNS places were human. I honestly didn't expect this treatment to be so good.
I stepped out of the car and immediately smelt blood. My fangs elongated and I sighed. Being a vampire was sometimes a burden. I shook my head and moved forward. My long legs were starting to move faster on their own. I really did need some blood. Walking in, I saw the receptionist straighten up and look me up and down. I scoffed, disgusted by her very public show of interest.
"Hello sir. Are you new here?"
"Yes, I am." It seemed to be better to keep my sentences short and choppy. I didn't need her to think I was interested or something.
"Okay. Do you have any preferences for someone to feed off of?"
"I prefer females. I also would like to request one of the... better ones, if you catch my meaning."
"Better as in more popular? Or better as in bed?" She stated this rather seductively... and desperately. Disgusting.
"More popular. I don't come to these shops with the want or need to bed the person I bite," I snapped, displaying my annoyance at her.
"Oh. Very well sir. She'll be right out."
I nodded and swiftly turned to stand in the lobby, away from Ms. Wandering Eyes. My cell phone started to ring. I pulled it from my pocket to see the caller ID. It was my mother. I accepted the call and smiled once I heard her bubbly voice.
"Son! You answered! It's been forever since I've heard your voice! How are you? How is America? You're getting blood, right? I know you hate it but it's essential to survive son. Well, for us vampires anyway. Although, that's not really true but ignore that! Tell me, where are you and what are you doing?"
I laughed into the phone and shook my head at my mother's regular chatter. "Yes mother. I've missed you, I won't forget about you and I love you. I'm good and it's only been three days since I left. America seems fine, most of what I've seen anyway. I am at a shop right now, getting some blood. Actually, she might be here soon so I should probably go. I've missed you mother." I had breathed the last sentence into the phone and shut my eyes.
"Oh, don't worry about me son. I'll be fine. Remember, I have your father, who you need to call by the way. We miss you very much but we respect your decision to leave. It's very important that you find your soul mate son. That is why you left, right? Oh, of course it is. Well honey, I've got to go. It's been very hectic over here now that you're gone. A lot of females have become brokenhearted. We love you too." I turned around and looked up, still hearing my mother's voice.
In front of me stood a very beautiful woman. She seemed to know exactly what she was doing. Her hair was down, a trait most would find sexy. Her body movements were graceful and I could hardly see the emotions in her eyes. She was close to perfect.
I stepped forward and slipped my phone into my pocket. "You must be the one I requested?" I asked, making sure she was for me.
"Yes sir. Come with me." Her voice simply amazed me. I tensed a little, making her eyes narrow a fraction. She turned and walked forward a couple steps. I took these steps to catch myself and also admire her figure. I am still a man with carnal needs and she was definitely something. Bedding her was not my intention though and I hoped to keep it that way.
I moved quickly to follow her. We arrived at her private room, her name on a plaque beside the door. It read 'Katelyn Gray'. Same last name as the company owners of the VN shops. Interesting. I pushed through the door and saw her there. She smiled at me and my heart stuttered.
I knew then that this girl was my mate. My eyes turned red and I smiled back.
"Hello darling. I haven't had a drink in a while so I might take a little more than I should. I might need you to stop me."
She held up her hand, silencing me. "It's okay if you want to take a little extra. I don't mind. Before you start assuming I am a whore, I will let you take what you deem fit enough for yourself. You can help yourself, I'm simply here to assist you for that."
She was extremely professional. It was kind of sexy in a way I wouldn't think to be sexy.
She's your mate, my conscious says. You'll always find her sexy.
I looked her up and down with a quick glance of my eyes and continued stepping towards her. I wouldn't mind finding her sexy at all.
