A blinding light filled the background.

"Did I die?" Anna asked herself as she opened her eyes slowly.

"Get away from them" a deep, brave coarse voice boomed through the dead silence. It was soon followed with a reenactment of a scene from " the matrix", except more intense. He gave devastating blows to the opponents that were twice his size. They collapsed like dominoes, almost as if he had iron fists in his punches. Anna began to notice something weird about him. His fighting skills were almost "not normal". At one moment, he was in front of his opponent and the next moment he had made his way to the next guy delivering nasty blows simultaneously. It was as if he moved at the speed of light.

"Am I dreaming? Is the pain in my shoulders that excruciating to an extent where I am starting to doubt reality?" Anna couldn't seem to comprehend what was going on.

The mysterious man rose to the sky and whizzed past one of the beefy guys, landing him on his back. A beaming light appeared with a flick of his wrist and rendered his opponent in an unconscious state.

The battle ended with an easy victory to the "mystery man". He turned around, his bewildering gaze resting upon the two cowered girls. A soft look of relief spread across his young face. The dark shadows of the night rested on his lean shoulders. Through his maroon cape flowing in the night wind, his sturdy body was visible. He had the build of a fighter. His dark features were visible in the peeking moonlight. Even with the pitch darkness, Anna could tell that he was absolutely beautiful.

Anna felt a small tug on the seam of her dress. The little girl was solid with fear, even more so due to the intimidating look of their savior. Anna smiled at her reassuringly and held her clammy hands against hers. "It's okay now, dear.  The bad guys have left, see? That man saved us, he's not scary".

The little girl glanced up at Anna with furrowed eyebrows. A look of pure fear engulfed her as she squirmed out of Anna's arms and she edged into a corner as if she had just seen a ghost. Just then, a woman emerged out of the darkness, frantically running towards them.

Her striking golden hair and her hourglass figure against her patterned body-con dress made her out to resemble a model. She ran to the little girl's side and enveloped her into her bosom. "Clara my dear, Oh my god, Mummy thought I had lost you! Oh my oh my! " she bellowed with frantic cries of relief.

Anna was trying to make sense of the whole situation. The mother had whizzed past the "mysterious man" as if he was a shadow in the darkness. There had been no acknowledgment. It was as if the man that had just saved them from impending death had not been there. Or rather had not been seen.

"Hello, Miss? Miss? As yes, hello. I am Mrs Van De Vaal. I presume you just saved my daughter. Thank you so much, Miss. Here, I work at the Van De Vaal Corporation, why won't you come over for lunch someday as a token of my gratitude?"

Anna took her name card with a slight bow of her head. "Should I tell her I wasn't the one who saved her? Should I ask her if she could see the guy standing in front of her?"

Anna caught a glance of the little girl's bewildered look. No. If Mrs Van had seen this man, she would have turned to him or at least questioned him for just standing there. There was no communication between them, let alone any look in his direction.  As Anna watched the mother-and-daughter pair walk away from the alley, she began to question her sanity. Anna peered up at the man. He was fiddling with a cigarette, his back leaning against the brick walls lining the alley with a pondering look on his face.

Anna's heart was beating wildly against her chest. All of this must be a dream. Definitely. All of this would be cleared out once she talked things over with that man.

"Alright, let's do this, " Anna thought in her head as she made her way to the man. The moment she reached him, he was gone. As if she had taken a photograph of a rare bird that flew out of the lens view, he had vanished into thin air. Anna was even more sure the man she saw was a ghost now.  Then, she saw him again against the backdrop of the entrance into the alley.

Anna ran to him with all her might. She was not going to lose him again. It was an important matter of whether she had finally gone insane or not that she had to affirm.

"Hi, Hey. Look, I know this may sound crazy and I mean obviously you're not a ghost or some supernatural being but I just wanted to you know just to check? " Anna fumbled as every syllable of her sentence forced itself out of her trembling lips.

The man ignored her, deeply engaged with muttering some words to himself. Anna took a breath in and gently patted him. The man whizzed around to face her. A look of sheer shock filled his face and he stood, frozen as ice, staring into Anna's eyes. Then he blurted out the words, "You can see me!?"

With a look as surprised as his, Anna stared back. No words would come out.

"What the hell was that supposed to mean?"
