The girl sat in the sunshine outside her house and stared numbly at the screen in front of her. A thousand voices screamed at her inside her head, "THIS IS YOUR FAULT! YOU WISHED FOR THIS!" but she ignored them, still reading the news page in horror. Billions dead. Millions dying, all unable to make a single noise. There was complete silence. Everywhere. Birds tipped from their perches, dead, before they could sing a single note. Dogs howled at their lifeless owners and fell beside them. A body lay, discarded and broken next to a phone, desperately trying to play music that no one could hear, or ever would hear again. She knew that her family were inside that house. She knew, but she didn't want to look. She didn't want to see the looks on their faces as they saw each other die, while she sat outside and cursed the lot of them. She rocked silently, her eyes wide in terror and panic. The accusing voices swarmed, thrashing against her skull; crying, screaming, shouting, daring her to make a sound. Panic bubbled up her throat, her body betraying her as tears danced down her face. A scream lunged up her throat and tore itself from her lips, piercing the still air.

Everything went black.
