The House in the Woods
Just a little background on this story. I'm taking a creative writing course in my high school and my teacher gave us an assignment to find a creepy abandoned house and write about it descriptively. I took that as an initiative and continued the story. I hope you like it. Leave comments telling me what I could do the make it better. Thanks bloopers. I loveded yous faces. Bless your nose. BYEEEE!!! ;)

Children around the neighborhood talk of an old house secluded within the woods that had been abandoned since the 1960’s. They talk of how there are no windows and no front door. How one of the windows looks as if it had been smashed out of its frame. Ignoring their warnings and pleas, begging me not to continue my journey into the forest in search of the house, I turn my back to them, walking into what could possibly scar me for life.
Sneaking my way through the woods, careful of any creatures in the night hiding within the shadows cast by the moon I walk forward. My eyes scan the surrounding area, stopping on a white building off in the distance. Turning my body, I hastily walk towards the building, stopping in my tracks as my eyes adjust and take in the view before me. Standing in front of me was a white brick building, but the grunge from the nature around it was starting to change it to darker colors. There was a small attic type space on the roof, an empty frame resting on the addition. A red brick chimney was sticking out of the roof as it once had when someone had lived there.
Slowly, I creep closer to the house, careful not to step on any bulging roots or leftover animal traps. I start to lean my head into the empty doorframe, retreating when I hear a twig snap to my right within the shadows. Retracing my steps, I run back the way I came to the best of my abilities, only breathing a sigh of relief when I see the children of the neighborhood standing and waiting for me. Emerging from the overgrown bush, I run to my friends, breathing heavily as others surround me. Questions flow out of their mouths, all converging into one giant noise.
Shuddering from a gust of wind that seems to only wrap around me, I start racing back to the small neighborhood. People’s voices start to fade away as I create a distance between us. Seemingly out of nowhere, a piercing scream erupts, causing me to fall to my knees as I clutch my head. My eyes, shut tightly, fly open as I feel the presence of someone behind me. I whip my head around, still holding my hands over my ears as if that would stop the screams from reaching them. No one is behind me other than the children from the neighborhood, who all seem to not be affected by the shrillness of the screams that are now surrounding me. They race forward, pushing and shoving their way to the front of the group to see what was wrong with me.
Someone wraps their arms around me in a comforting manner, trying their best to stop whatever is hurting me. As someone to the right of me shifts slightly, I see a woman standing in the shrubbery of the forest, mouth hanging open as if she was screaming. I point towards her, hoping someone will help her and make her stop the screaming. Others turn their heads towards her location before looking back at me, giving me a look of concern. Opening my mouth, I try my best to talk, to scream, but nothing comes out. No sound, not even a whisper of breath. My eyes widen, reaching my hands up to scratch at my throat.
The people around me start whispering to each other, making speculations about me. They were judging me, making fun of me. I had to prove to them that I wasn’t crazy, that there was a woman there. Standing up, I push my way through the large crowd of bystanders, staggering my way toward the woman, trying to block out the ear splitting screams. The crowd follows me, curious of my plans that seem to be at the edge of the forest. I break into a slight jog for a few seconds before I start sprinting towards the woman, hoping that she was real and that I could stop her screaming. Suddenly, as if she had heard a funny joke, the woman quits screaming and starts to laugh loudly. I stop in my tracks, looking behind me to see if the other children were able to hear her laughing. I stood and prayed silently that they heard it too. They stopped, half bending over, trying to catch the breath the lost while trying to reach me. The other half stood there, staring at me, criticizing me. I look back toward the woman, only to find her right in front of me. Jerking back, I catch me foot on a part of loose concrete, falling backwards. Children surround me when I land, all talking at once, their words being jumbled together into a mesh of sounds that mix with the laughter.
The children form another circle around me, blocking my view of the laughing woman. Turning my head slowly, I try to search for the woman. Finding no view of her what so ever, I turn my gaze to the clouds hanging above me in the darkening sky, only to have my view blocked by the woman who my mind was on earlier. I try to gasp, the hair getting caught in my throat causing me to gag and choke. I claw at my neck, trying to find a way to breath. Finding no way, I feel myself slipping away into the black abyss. Watching as the woman opens her mouth, I strain my ears to hear what could possibly be the last thing of my life. She leans closer, close enough that I could see the different hues in her dull blue eyes.
“They told you to stay away from the house didn’t they? Take this as a warning my dear. Tell the world to stay away from the house in the woods,” she whispers, but I feel nothing, not a single breath. I hear faint laughing as the darkness consumes me whole.
I shoot straight up in bed, clutching at my chest as I breathe heavily, trying to concentrate on what had just gone on in my head. Sitting in my bed, I watch my surroundings as thoughts continue to run through my mind. Realizing what I have to do, I jump out of bed and start my mission.
