A week into their flight, and the group of ragtag heroes had only made it halfway to Kalafrak.
They had retrieved the location from the flash drive that they decoded aboard Kasms ship. They prayed that on Kalafrak, they could find answers as to why they were all brought together.
Kaet turned over in the large bed, what had been prior, Kasms bed.
She rubbed her forehead as she tried to push away the thought and go back to sleep, but couldn't.
She had fallen for Kasm, and all he did was try to save her from her evil father.
And in turn, her father had murdered him.
She felt a fire rush through her blood at the thought of her father and she sat up, rubbing what matter had built up from her eyes.
She got up and showered off, changing into fresh clothes. Then, she trudged up the stairs to see what she could find to eat.
Her brother had fallen asleep on the couch.
She watched her brother for a minute, as he breathed deeply in his sleep.
"Lucky." she thought with a half-smile, envying his slumber.
She peeked into the guest bedroom.
As usual, Elm was curled up atop the sheets, Vell seated beside the bed, his head down radiating a light glow in a sort of sleep state.
She continued into the kitchen area and pulled down a bowl, then retrieved a spoon out from the drawer next to the fridge.
A wave of her hand, and a box of her favorite cereal fell through a red disc next to her.
She poured the cereal, enjoying the sound as cereal and marshmallow bits landed in the bowl.
Then, she added some milk from one of the many jugs still left in Kasms fridge.
She carried it back around the wall and sat in a chair at the table, quietly eating her cereal.
She nearly jumped when the beeping began.
It wasn't loud, it was just unexpected and had caught her off guard.
She got up and headed to the cockpit, trying to search for the cause.
As she was looking for a way to shut it off, she finally realized that it wasn't just a monotone beeping. It was a tune, a simple tune, one she had heard before. A five-note pattern, played on repeat.
"Oh my..." She began. "Mrax! Get over here!"
She could hear a startled crash as Mrax jumped out of the couch and Elm wearily woke up and came beside her.
"What?" The little fox asked as Mrax joined them.
"Listen."
They stood in silence for almost a full minute.
"So, what is it?" Mrax asked, rubbing matter from his eyes.
"Oh, right. You don't recognize it. That is the tone Kasm used to summon his ship back when we escaped the prison."
"And if you listen closely," Elm stated, "You can hear a longer break after every second run through."
"Just like the tune he played out for us."
Mrax rubbed his eyes with his good hand. "Let me guess. You want to follow it."
"Of course." Kaet was a little shocked that her brother even asked.
"And what if it's just another Glitcher trying to reach Kasm?"
"It's possible," Elm spoke up, "I recall Kasm stating that the signal could only ever be used to summon his ship."
"Could still be a trap."
"The Glitchers know Kasm's dead. So, I'd rule them out."
Kaet rubbed Elm between his ears. "Do your thing."
Mrax rolled his eyes and went back to the couch, while Elm woke Vell and the two began tracking the signal.
