(It's college exams, they're both well over 16, welcome to England.)

Joonmyun dropped his head with a sigh exiting through the glass revolving doors. Clenched in his hand still was the pen he'd used for his exam, reluctant to return it to his bag as if he could still use it to fix things somehow.

That was crap, you're going to fail.

He looked at the offending pen in accusation before stuffing it into his trousers' pocket and dragging his hands down his face with a groan, leaving an brief array of red streaks on his skin.

Biology was never his strong point, but that paper was ridiculous: every question seemed more alien than the last, as if the exam board had eyes on him at home, and intentionally selected every topic he didn't reach in his extensive revision, hunched over a desk every night until ass-o'clock in the morning.

Worse than being completely clueless was that the answer to each question had been right on the end of his tongue the whole time.

It was at this point in the process of self-loathing that Oh Sehun decided to make an appearance, laughing his way out of the cursed building with Park Chanyeol close on his tail, acting out something that looked ridiculous but was apparently funny as all hell.

Joonmyun wouldn't have thought that they'd just endured the the same exam.

Sehun waved when he saw him, and Joonmyun was torn between selfish anger at their bright mood and marvel at how little the boys managed to care for their futures. He forced a smile though, and it somehow made him feel much better.

He laughed with them about silly things until they came to a fork in the road, where Chanyeol parted from them with a toothy smile and wave of his hand.

"You alright to come back to mine?"

Sehun asked, unwrapping a piece of gum as he spoke. Joonmyun shrugged and eyed the gum, so Sehun passed it to him instead.

"Yeah, I guess."

"Good."

They walked for a while in comfortable silence before Sehun spoke up again, this time with a much less savory topic.

"How did you find that?"

"Minty," Joonmyun replied, looking at the taller boy straight-faced for a moment before they broke into laughter again.

"The exam, you nut!" Sehun elbowed him in the side.

"It was okay," Joonmyun lied through his teeth "I revised," he offered, feeling the need to at least be truthful about something.

Sehun snorted and raised his eyebrows: "people who do alright don't try to gouge their own eyes out when they leave the premises."

Joonmyun didn't have a good answer for that, choosing instead to be much more interested in the ground beneath his feet.

They came to Sehun's house soon after, which came as somewhat of a relief to Joonmyun as it would mean they could play video games and forget the whole damned thing.

Dumping their bags in the hallway the boys raced upstairs to Sehun's room, Joonmyun being more than familiar with the house by now. They'd been pretty solid friends since they were young and Joonmyun spent more time here than at his mum's own flat.

He dove across the bed grappling for a controller that was still in place there, presumably from all the 'revision' Sehun had been doing last night, but Sehun didn't follow him, instead choosing to stand in the doorway with his arms crossed.
