Chapter 20:
It was the day of the championship match, I was really not a fan of football but it was important; the whole school was going to attend it to cheer our team. It’d been a hard season, I heard Jake saying once, but it didn't really matter I was just going to go there for my friends.
I was about to get dressed when I heard my door bell ringing, “Coming!” I shouted.
I opened the door and to my surprise it was Alex.
“What are you doing here? I am supposed to meet you guys there.” I said, surprised to see him.
“I have some important stuff to tell you.” He said, getting in.
“What?” I asked curiously.
He sounded serious. “I just saw Max….”
“So you saw Max?” I said in confusion.
“Could you not interrupt me this one time, please?” I nodded, gesturing him to carry on.
He then continued, “I saw him earlier with that blond girl that Chris was dancing with at the party.” My face was down cast as I recall the memory. “They were kissing.”
Now that got me interested “so I did some digging. It turns out that the text you got on the night of the party from the unknown number; it turned out to be Max’s number, he’s dumb enough to register the number with his name after he bought it. And the girl, I met her before I came here; she told me that Max was the one who planned this all out; he told her to drag Chris to the dance floor and he used some sort of drugs in Chris’s beer so it would make him get drunk faster."
By this point my mouth was hanging open, why would Max do all of this? Just to separate Chris and me! But why? Why is it so important to him?
“Pumpkin are you okay?” Alex said, sounding concerned. I nodded.
“I didn’t tell Chris about all of this yet.” He said.
“Why?” I asked shocked.
“I don’t know; he seems to be bettering himself and he really did change a lot, believe it or not I like him that way better.” He said smiling ,feeling happy for his friend.
“I better go change if we want to watch the match.” I said getting up.
I need to be alone to think of all of this. As I was getting dressed my head felt like it would explode. I had millions of questions in my head but I had to put all of those stuff aside and be with my friends. I am a strong girl and I could do it – or at least I think I can.
Alex kept nagging about him driving me to the match ,I tried to reason with him but of course I gave up. It wasn't worth the fight anyway.
We arrived late, the match had already started 15 minutes ago, Marie was defiantly going to kill me. I rushed to where we were supposed to sit and found Marie there cheering for Jake. I walked through the crowd till I reached her. I gave her the most apologetic look and started to cheer for Jake with her, after a while Alex joined us.
Half time and our team was already winning by 4 points, we sat down drinking water; my throat hurt from all the cheering, but I liked it.
Suddenly I heard my name being called in the microphone, the voice said to look center field so I did; me along with the whole school who were here to watch the game. Even the rival school paid attention.
Then I saw him. Chris, he was standing center field holding a microphone in his hands- oh no what was he gonna do? Please don’t do something crazy ,I begged mentally.
“Ladies and gentlemen.” He began. “There is this girl here that I am madly in love with and I promised her that I would return better and I guess that’s what I did and for the people out there who knew me , I must have a very strong comeback. Sophie, Life’s been unbearable without you, I missed you a lot. It was like my soul wasn’t attached to my body; cause my heart and soul were with you all that time. I’d given you a piece of our love with each and every rose I left at your door. It was a reminder that our love is renewable and can be saved. I’d watched you take every rose every day, and I had to fight the argue to run and hold you tight in my arms, to kiss you and to smell that scent of yours that I missed so much. And now that I know that I could be someone worthy to be with you; I’ll do my best to keep that amazing smile always on your face. I'd always remember to cherish that miracle that made you love me as much as I love you. So here’s to Sophie; the girl that moved my heart and changed me to be better, would you please come down here and take your rose of the day.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, Omg he was crazy…. But I loved him. I loved this crazy guy.
I rushed past people till I reached the field and before I knew it I was running into him, hugging him tight as if I wanted to make sure that it was really him; right now I don’t care about what happened at the party or what I’ve known about Max’s involvement, I just want this guy and he’s absolutely mine; I don’t even care to know anything; I just want him here in my arms forever. He pulled away gently, held my face between his hands and kissed me on the forehead; he then gave me the rose and held my hand.
I then remembered the necklace. I let go of his hand and reached for my pocket. He looked confusedly at me then I took it out and handed it to him.
“I looked after your heart.” I said smiling. “But I was hoping that you’d be the one to put it on my neck.”
“Gladly.” He said with a matching grin on his face.
“I missed you Soph.” he said as we were heading out of the school.
“I missed you way more Chris.” I said, looking into his beautiful eyes.
“I just had to stay away to prove to you and myself and everyone else that I am not what people think of me, and that I am no longer the heartbreaker.” He said with sincerity in his voice.
“No, you are not the heartbreaker anymore Chris.” I said smiling taking his hands into mine “You are mine.”
He grinned boyishly at me, then pulled me closer through our intertwined hands. Before I knew it, he captured my lips tenderly with his, letting me see through his soul and heart. All I could feel was his heart beating loudly; calling out for mine.
A whole new passion arouse within me, taking over me instantly. I shivered in delight as I felt liquified love making it's way from Chris to me ; running freely and widely in my veins. My heart warmed and melted on his lips as both our lips moved passionately in synch. My head felt so light and my toes felt like they weren't touching the ground anymore.
We were caught in our world as love and longing enveloped us with its fire. I knew by then my love for him couldn't get any bigger; he ran through my veins sending my heart and soul to life. We broke apart, grasping for breath. I then heard him whisper softly in my ear, "I love you."
