The Storm

I was running. I didn't know where I was. The snow was falling, harder and harder as I ran faster and faster. The snow was up to my knees, and my thin sweater and small beany were not helping me. My feet were cold and felt like they would fall off. I look back at the direction I came, making sure I wasn't being followed. The tears that had started to fall were frozen to my cheeks. I couldn't take this anymore. I screamed in pain and looked up at the sky. Then I collapsed and fell into the soft snow. It started to go black, then a tall figure stood over me. As my eyes started to close, I felt the figure pick me up, and a small chuckle. Then it went black.

I opened my eyes suddenly to see I was in a bed, within a warmly lit room, and a hot bowl of soup was by the bed. It seemed like a small cottage and was decorated fairly nicely. I was unaware of where I was. Then I heard a thump and what sounded like plates clinking against each other. I jumped and slowly pulled the covers up. Right then, a very tall man with a long coat and a very very long scarf that covered his neck came around the corner.

"Oh, good. You're awake. I thought you would be dead!". He chuckled and looked me in the eyes. He had blonde hair and very pretty dark purple eyes. His rather large nose poked out of the top of the scarf. He had gloves on and boots. I stared at him, and felt scared. But when I looked into his eyes I felt some sort of warmth. He came around the corner of the bed and looked at the soup bowl.

"Why have you not eaten your soup?". He asked. I looked at the soup and realized how hungry I was. I slowly reached out for the soup, and when I had hold of it I hungrily gorged it down. It was full of chicken and carrots and potatoes, with pepper and onion. It was the best thing I have eaten in the past few days. When I was done, the man grabbed the bowl and what looked like he smiled. He went to put the bowl in the sink and came back.

"So, little sunflower, tell me about yourself?" He said.

"I-i-i am Ruby. Who are you?"

"I am the man that saved you."

I stared at him, admiring his smart assness.

"I meant, what's your name?"

"My name is Ivan. My friends call me ivy...if I had any friends."

I was scared of Ivan, honestly. Well, more like if I didn't look into his eyes I was scared. He looked away from me and looked out one of the windows.

"This storm is bad, da (yes)?"

I looked out the window. Which brought me to the thought of how the hell I got into Ivan's house. He must have seen the way my face changed, because he turned to me and held my hand.

"You were out in that thing, da?"

I nodded.

"Well, I thought I saw someone moving out there, after that horrible crash I heard. I went to see what it was about, but all I saw was a trail of blood and foot prints that lead outward. I followed them, and I heard you scream. I thought it could be the wolfs eating you, so I ran. I got there just on time, da? You would've died if I hadn't picked you up. Before we got to my little cottage, I had to warm you up with my body."

He unbuttoned his coat and showed a giant wet spot that was left from him pressing me against his body. When he mentioned the crash I jumped up, but a pain in my side forces me too sit down. I lifted up my shirt to see a bandage all the way around my torso, and the whole left side was bloody. He got up and lied me back down.

"Now, now, sunflower. You shouldn't do that."

I noticed his Russian accent. It reminded me of someone I used to know..........someone I am afraid of. I thought about the crash, the flames, and then, him. My face drained of color, and I felt dizzy. Ivan put his hand behind my head and laid my head down as I fainted.
