Chapter 16

Complications

The hair on my neck pricked up immediately. I could feel Tyler's hands tense up around my waist. The crowd fell silent. Heads turned toward the royals, who stared wide-eyed at my groom and I.

"Well," the queen broke the silence. King French just stood there, waiting for action. The small movement of the King's nose flaring sent chills down my spine. He jerked his head up, nostrils flared, snooping on all the mortals that blankly stared back at him.

I gulped down hard. Tyler released his tight grasp on me, his arms falling by his sides. There's hundreds of mortals in here, that still think the vampire is a legend from thousands of years ago. Two, professional, hungry born killers waiting for revenge. What's there to do now?

Wrapping my fingers around the sides of my dress, lifting it up quickly, trotting down the couple stairs, back down on the aisle. "My King, My Queen," I started. Tyler followed, the crowd having questioning looks on their faces.

"What is it I see here," the King opened up his mouth, his incisors looking sharper then ever.

"You do not understand," Tyler cleared his throat. "We tried contacting you-"

He was cut short by the razor sharp snap of the neck the Queen gave to glare at him. "You tried," she huffed, her blood-red eyes falling to the marble flooring.

"What's going on?" My mother slipped out of her chair, trotting up to us.

"Silence, you worthless, cowardly mortal, not another word," the Queen roared, leaving my mom to sit down. My mother new what was going on. But she had to pretend. Because no one else knew.

"My royals, can we take this outside?" Tyler asked quietly.

The royals servants grabbed Tyler first, shoving him to the floor. I barred my incisors, lowering myself. The royals stared at me in amusement. The other servant grabbed me, I could hear the crowd behind me "oh"-ing and shrieking in terror.

My extraordinary hearing tweaked as I heard the guests get up and start running away. Some stayed. I could smell my mother. She knew what was going on. I could sense worrying.

What went wrong? Who leaked out this information? Everything is ruined. What's going to happen to Tyler and I? What's going to happen to Calvin?

"You have broken one of the sacred rules, you have turned a mortal into an immortal without the French's consent. You are getting married, without our consent. There are enormous amounts of punishments for this, Carissa dear," the Queen recited.

"And you said we would get away with it," I whispered on the verge of tears, to my groom.

Tied up and thrown into the back of a truck, we were being transported somewhere. Still in my wedding dress, I was uncomfortable. Hungry, scared, I was like a lost puppy.

I couldn't stop sobbing. I had so much hatred to the world, to the royals, to Tyler, to everybody, I was a nutcase.

Tyler couldn't even look at me. His shame, for letting this happen to us, seemed like so much. And I was angry, angry that he let this happen. When he promised everything was going to be okay. When he promised that this was going to be the best day of my life.

"Everything will be okay," I mimicked him through sobs. He looked at me, with hurtful eyes.

"Carissa I-"

I cut him short. "I regret everything. Everything Tyler. Who knows what will happen now? What's going to happen to Calvin? They'll kill him. They'll kill us, Ty. We broke the sacred laws. And you promised," I couldn't continue. The fear of never seeing my baby again. The fear of never seeing my lover again. The fear of never tasting blood again. The fear of never taking another step on this earth again.

The truck stopped abruptly. I looked around us, but I couldn't see where we were. The servants opened the back doors of the truck, hoisted us over their shoulders, and through us on the floor. It knocked the wind out of me.

"Now," the Queen started.

"You will be transported to Transylvania immediately. No further questions will be allowed," the King boomed over us, staring us down like a vulture lurking it's prey.

Tyler quickly got up. "My royals, I am terribly sorry, we haven't done anything wrong-"

"Haven't done anything wrong?!" The Queen started, her true inner vampire raging out. It even scared me. "You broke the sacred laws! How dare you," her pale white arm became visible to Tyler's cheek as she struck him, causing him to flail to the hard ground.

I shuddered. I didn't want to open my mouth. I didn't want to move. I was too scared.

The Queen quickly looked at me, seeking if I would like to add on. But I just kept my mouth shut. My stomach growled as the smell of fresh blood danced around my nostrils from a nearby kill. I could tell the French's had noticed it too. They both shifted and turned to their servants. "Let's get out of here. Quickly."

Thrown back into the truck, we drove a long way until we came to the middle of no where. A jet was there waiting for us. Every body climbed up into it, and it took off.

I couldn't stop sobbing. Tyler was caressing me, but I didn't want him to. Because he promised that everything would turn out okay. Where will Calvin stay? I can't be away from my baby. Tyler and I will die, and how will he grow up?

These thoughts buzzed around in my head. If only I was human so I could sleep, but no. I'm immortal. It's as if ever since I was turned immortal, bad things have been happening to me....

I shook my head. I had to stop. Tyler looked at me, with a questionable look. I just stared at him. Took a good look at him, this will probably be the last time I'll ever spend with him. I studied his face, his muscular, sexy face. His thick, sharp eyebrows, his plump, soft lips, his smooth skin, his sparkly eyes....

"What have we done?" I asked. "Everything is ruined Tyler."

He lifted me up and set me on his lap. His legs were crossed, my head on his shoulder, laying over him. He smoothed the damp, muddy hair out of my face, and pressed his lips to my right temple.

"You promised," a tear ran down my cheek, and I shut my eyes, just letting the tears fall. He wiped them away with his soft hands.

"I'm sorry," he whispered in my ear. "I never thought this would happen. I tried to do everything for you. I love you so much Carissa. But I'm scared, I don't know what's going to happen."

The fact that Tyler was scared made me even more scared. Tyler was never scared. Never.

Turbulence hit us, the jet started shaking a bit. We both looked around, and went back into position. "Just know that whatever happens, that I love you more then anything. I will always love you."

And then he leaned down to press his icy cold lips to mine.
