"Li-zy! You've been in there hours! It's my turn!" I sighed while rolling my eyes. Anna could be so dramatic at times it is down-right annoying.
"Alright one second!" I yelled back. The mirror was covered with condensation when I stepped out of the shower. I had practically turned the bathroom into my own personal sauna. Quickly I dried off, got dressed, and re-entered the brightly lit hallway.
Things had taken a toll for the worse... if that were even possible. I had made some shocking discoveries over the last twenty-four hours, some of which being that I'm mentally unstable. Last night I had gone to bed in a dank, smelly, wooden house. Then, this morning, I had awoken to a modern-day teenagers room. At first I was convinced I was dreaming, but after quite a few pinches I had determined that I was in fact fully awake. And that alone was enough to scare me half to death.
You see, this morning I woke up and it was like the entire house had changed- like it wasn't even the same house at all. Dry-wall actually covered the walls and was painted. Hardwood floors covered the entire house, and everything actually seemed normal. Cabinets were hung in the kitchen, along with all the essentials. The bathrooms were fully furnished. It was unbelievable! And in a way, it truly was. I knew for certain that we had arrived and gone to bed in an old, abandoned, partially destroyed house. And then through the course of the night everything had changed. I couldn't see one single reminder of the old house.
Something really wasn't right. I hadn't dared told my parents, or even Anna, for fear of what they would think. Soon, though, I would have to tell someone because all my thoughts were building up. It was becoming harder to keep it to myself. Lucky for me though today was Monday and I had school. This was probably the only Monday I will ever look forward to. Ever. School would hopefully get my mind off of things.
Unfortunately, I had a thirty minute bus ride. That was way to much time to think freely. But who could I talk to? I was the new kid who sat alone with not one single friend, and Anna wasn't an exception. She would leave me to go and make friends which I bet is going to be ten times easier for her then me.
I looked around at the school in bewilderment. It was huge! Hallway after hallway, level after level, classroom after classroom! How was I supposed to get around quick enough to make it to class on time? It was enough to give me a headache.
I looked around desperately, in need of some sort of direction. A girl with stick straight hair and a bright orange backpack passed in front of me. I walked up to her and tapped her shoulder.
"Excuse me, can you help me?" She stopped and turned.
"Uh, sure. New student?" I nodded, heat rising in my cheeks.
"Is it really that obvious?" She laughed slightly, a deeper sound than I would've imagined.
"Kinda. But don't worry. My name's Casey, by the way." Casey held out a hand which I shook.
"Elizabeth, but call me Liz. Now do you know where Mr. Saunders room is?" Casey nodded and waved a hand.
"I have him too. Just follow me. So... where're you from?"
"Chicago."
"Really? Wow. I wonder what it's like there."
"Tall buildings, clogged streets, lots of gray. Nothing interesting," I responded with a shrug. Personally I had never really liked Chicago. Except... with all the new craziness Chicago was looking pretty nice right now.
"Well, I bet it's a lot different here, huh?" I nodded and we lapsed into silence. Maybe Casey was someone I could eventually share my thoughts with. I would have to see though, I still needed some time. Who knew if I was suffering from some really weird disease when we first arrived that made my brain all weird.
"Here we are." I stepped in front of Casey and walked inside. The room was small, with a handful of desks and Mr. Saunders desk. Other then that it was actually pretty boring. White panel ceilings, a dark carpet, and a whiteboard in the front of the room. "You wanna sit next to me?" Casey offered.
"Sure." Casey walked to the back row of desks and took a seat. I sat down next to her just as she asked another question.
"So where's your new house?"
"111 Maple Road." Casey paled slightly, although it was only barely noticeable. "Is something wrong with that house?" I asked, trying my best to pry for information inconspicuously. She was silent before shaking her head. Dang it.
The bell rang and who I assumed was Mr. Saunders walked in.
"Good morning class. Please pull out your textbooks and turn to page three thirty-two." I sighed while pulling my textbook out. This was going to be a very long day.
