As soon as class was dismissed, I slung my backpack over my shoulder and started making my way to the door, pushing past the other students. I couldn't explain why I felt the urge to go- it just felt like something I had to do. It was something my dad would've called "unsure sureness". I noticed Percy getting up to follow me, but he got lost behind a crowd of teens laughing and chatting. I really hope I'm not making a big mistake. Suddenly I noticed Pigtail Girl behind me staring at me again. She seriously creeped me out. I quickly slipped into the hall before the teacher could notice. "Study hall, study hall," I muttered to myself, digging in my backpack for the map of the school. I found it and headed in its direction. Hopefully Percy was going to catching up with me soon. I looked back, hoping to see him, but instead saw Pigtail Girl- resolutely walking after me. She didn't catch up to me, but matched pace with me perfectly. I walked a little faster and rounded a corner, hoping that she would stop following me. But then I saw her round the corner as well. Yep, she was following me. Her fists were firmly clenched and her eyes were narrowed at me. Please catch up to me soon, Percy!

I saw "Study Hall" on the sign ahead and darted into the room. Hiding behind a book rack, I waited for Pigtail Girl. Sure enough, she walked in. Her eyes scanned the room for me. I tried to flatten myself against the book rack, but she spotted me anyway.

"Come out- I see you!" she said triumphantly. Her voice was strange and rasping, like a witch with bronchitis. Hmm, most teenagers don't sound like that. I guess hiding behind the bookcase didn't really accomplish anything, seeing as she already knew where I was. Slowly climbing out from behind the book rack, I stared the girl in the eyes.

"What do you want?" I asked, stepping out into the middle of the room.

The girl's eyes started glowing and she stretched out her hands like claws. "You!" she rasped back.

I was about to say that that sounded like a cheesy monster movie, when she started changing. And no, I don't mean changing her clothes. I mean literally changing. Her fingers turned into bony claws and wings sprouted from her head. Kinda pointless, seeing as they were about two inches long. But it was when I looked down at her legs that I was dumbfounded. Each of her legs was now a living serpent sprouted from her body, coiling itself around her as if it was alive. I guess it was alive. Creepy!

"O-kay, this is weird," I managed to gasp out before something knocked me to the ground. I looked up and saw that it was Percy.

   "Finally!" I said with relief.

"Run! Hide!" Percy ordered, his eyes intense. Before I could react, the girl/ monster charged towards him, her claws reached out to slice at him. He dodged, the monster's claws thunking into a shelf, and whipped a pen out of his pocket. Is he seriously going to defend himself with that? I thought, cringing behind the bookshelf. What'll he do- write on her? He pulled the cap off and the pen grew into a shimmering bronze sword. Wow. Ok, slightly more intimidating. He slashed at the monster but she swiped his blade away and lunged at him. He ducked and rolled across the floor.

I watched tensely, wincing each time the monster's claws sliced the air. But Percy was defending himself valiantly. The monster raised its arm to strike and he slashed its arm off, making it let out a howl in pain. The severed arm dropped on the floor with a thunk. Eww! The monster slashed at him again, and he dodged and ran towards me.

"Get out of here, Alexa!" he yelled.

I started to run, then stopped short. How did he know my name? Boy, this day kept getting weirder and weirder. I ran behind a bookcase and hid, watching the battle. I wanted to fight, but I had nothing to fight with- unless it was terrified of old classics. There was a whole arsenal sitting next to me. David Copperfield, Mark Twain. But I had a feeling that even if I thunked it with War and Peace it wouldn't make it stop fighting.
