For the most part, he had stayed in the shadows, in his self-imposed prison, waiting, listening to people who didn't know they'd been heard.
The dead could listen, if he wanted them to. The dead could do a great deal, if he wanted them to.
Then people were sorry, but they deserved it. They all deserved it.
He had always liked the shadows. They concealed so much.
Now there was something else. Now there was her.
The only star in the empty darkness of his sky.
She didn't know. She knew nothing of him. He would change that.
The shadows needed something else.
He needed something else.
She would know. She would understand. How could she not?
He would make her understand.
He wanted that.
It would happen.
