On a clear, crisp night, a blue moon rose above the horizon, barely illuminating the sprawling vines. It shone dimly upon the thick jungle, creating mangled looking shadows in its path. Hidden in a scraggly tree, a two young alicorns watched the scene, quietly whispering to each other.
"This hath happened at which hour thee cameth hither," the older one murmured, her self moving pink hair waving without any wind blowing.
"T didst? I don't remember any of this. I only recall falling," the younger one replied, better concealed in the tree than her sibling because of her darker coat.
"Yond's because thee weren't hither yet. I knoweth not how I cameth to this land, but I remember falling too," she explained, straining to get a better view of the events that were about to unfurl. And then slowly, the brightness of the moon increased, light steadily filling up the forest until the only darkness left was underground. It surged up suddenly, now in the middle of the sky, overlooking the land. In a brilliant flash, the two fillies shut their eyes, temporarily blinded to the beauty of the magical blue moon. Gradually, the glare died down and the two sisters gazed upward expectantly.
Plunging from the moon was a blurred silhouette. The figure crashed somewhere in the depths of the woods, a green streak of light trailing its descent, and the sisters hurried over, the eldest flying swiftly overhead with her white coat guiding her sibling galloping below. They soon reached what appeared to be a moaning pegasus. But when the fillies gained a closer inspection, they realized that this what not the case.
"Art thee well enow?" Asked the softly landing alicorn, fearlessly approaching the motionless lump. Her sister was more hesitant, observing from a distance. The green outline groaned and turned itself over, meeting the eyes of a now terrified pony. It staggered to its hooves, standing tall and studying the trembling duo. Bravely, but still in a quavering voice, the smaller sister spoke.
"What art thee?" She asked, staring at the alien life form looming above her and her sibling. The creature frowned, as if it didn't know itself. It gave a thoughtful expression and then answered.
"I am Bobw, Best of Both Worlds. I think I'm what you call a centaur. Am I right? Aren't you ponies my sisters?" They nodded quickly, and ran away, abandoning their third family member to the shadows of the forest. What they didn't know then, was that would be the biggest mistake in their entire life.
Sunset Shimmer hesitantly peered around the corner. Her ginormous book bag scuffed along the ground, her skinny filly legs trembling with fear. Her mentor loomed over her, but it wasn't Celestia. Oh no. Celestia never taught lessons like this.
"Well? Go on then. Dark magic books don't steal themselves," the voice said impatiently. Sunset gazed up at her teacher with terror in her eyes. She really didn't want to do this. REALLY didn't want to. But training was training and this was her first assignment and she had to pass. It was one of the biggest rules in the Society. If you're committed, you do your job and if you chicken out, you're not serious enough to be in the clan. Sunset truly did believe that Celestia was a pest and should be removed from her rule A.S.A.P, but stealing to knock her down? That was risky, as she'd explained several times to the members, but they didn't care. Her point was that she had the perfect position - being Celestia's student and all - and if she got caught, that position would be demoted. The Society just laughed, mentioning that Equestrian guards NEVER do their job.
Her heart pounded hard. Sunset had been working up the courage to finally make her move to elude the wary guard but ended up making herself more nervous.
"No, no. I can't do this. I'm too scared," she told her mentor. The wise teacher gazed down upon her student, noticing that the little filly was shaking furiously. Her face had gone white and her knees were buckled. Time for a pep talk.
