Chapter 2
“Why are you shaking it? That’s just weird.” Lucas complained from the couch. Laura had a carton of chocolate milk in hand, and was about to pour herself a drink.
“It gets the chocolate up from the bottom, moron.” She retorted
Lucas scrunched up his nose in disgust “It’s too rich with the extra chocolate.”
“You’re too rich!”
“You’ve tasted me? Ewww, pedo!”
“You’re older than me. How is that pedo?”
“Are you admitting to tasting me? I know look delectable, but seriously...”
Laura didn’t bother replying to that. She just walked over to the couch and clocked him over the head with the carton.
“Oy! Milk cartons aren’t exactly soft, you know!”
“Right.” She said dryly. “I bet if I hit you any harder, it would have been lethal.”
“It probably still is lethal. If I end up in hospital from this, you’re paying the bills.”
“Yeah. From your wallet.” She grinned.
“Which I hid.”
“Which I found.”
“Did not.”
“Did to.”
“Did not!”
“It’s in the dictionary you hollowed out in Year 11.”
“I’ve hidden the dictionary.”
“The dictionary’s in the drawer of your bed-side table buried under a crap load of Pokémon cards.”
He shook his head. “I’m too tired to argue, even if it is all metaphorical. Go away, you win.”
“Haha! I win!” she hooted. Lucas didn’t respond. He had buried his head in a pillow. Laura shrugged and walked away. It didn’t matter that he was 19, her brother still acted like a five year old.
Laura fished her phone out of her school bag. She clicked it on and was greeted with a little notice telling her she had messages. She flicked through. Most was junk mail from the phone company, but she had two from Anna that had been sent just a few minutes ago. She opened the first message.
Hi Laura! Hope this is the right number... Anyway, the girls and I are going out tonight. Under 18’s disco, but if that’s too tame for you, there’s a proper club just upstairs of that :) Interested? Txt back soon, Anna
Hell yeah she was interested! Laura flicked to the next text.
We’ll pick you up at seven, if you’re in. Got a curfew?
Laura checked the time. It was 5:30, just enough time to get ready and tell her Lucas where she was going. She quickly texted back.
Sure, that’d be awesome :) my curfew’s midnight. See you soon!!!
She gave Anna her address and they quickly exchanged details, before she threw her phone on her bed and left the room. Practically vibrating with excitement, she ran back into the living room to talk to Lucas. Just as she entered the room, it dawned on her that he might not approve of his baby sister going to a crazy party. She figured she’d be better off telling a tiny lie.
“Hey, Lucas?”
“What?”
“I’m going over to my friend’s house for a bit tonight. That ok? I’ll be back by midnight.”
