This is definitely one of my all time favorite anime, I think. I prefer the manga, but the anime (dubbed version) is pretty good. The sub is great too, but I prefer the dub. The characters are entertaining, wonderful art, and the story is cute and dark at the same time. I highly recommend it. I used a picture from the anime, but the art is pretty much spot-on compared to the manga, minus the things you can do with ink when you draw manga.
There's also a live action but it's not very good, at least in my opinion. It doesn't follow the original plot well. I compare it to the live action of Avatar the Last Airbender, and how the main character, who is generally an innocent type, is serious most of the time.

The author has also recently started drawing Rurouni Kenshin remake, I guess. There's also two OVA seasons that are in a different art style, but very cool looking.
