"He asked you out?" Rachel exclaimed in my ear.
"Well... He technically only invited me to the movies," I said bashfully. We were at her house after school. Rachel's parents are super rich and we always decide to come to her house, if we have a choice. Her room consists of a waterbed, huge walk in closet, her own bathroom (with a jacuzzi) , a flat screen t.v, and her own maid. She always calls me the lucky one but every time I mention her many amazing things she bruises me off and says she would trade it all for my power.
"Car! That is so a date!" She said. I think Rachel is more excited about this than me. "So... What's his name? Oh! Why does he look like? Does he-"
"Rachel! Calm down! His name is Erick!" I interrupted laughing. I realised to late that I gave her a command. Her eyes glassed over and her whole body took on a relaxed state. I could barely hear her breath and was almost certain she had passed out. I knew if I didn't break her trance she would become so relaxed that she just might not be able to breathe. Over time I realised that some things may be fatal. Everyday commands you tell your friends or siblings have to be taken very seriously or else bad things could happen. One day I was at a swim party for my friend Destiny and we were having a, who can hold their breath the longest competition, and we were getting competitive. It was our 4th round and we were out of breath but wanted one more round. And I told her,
"Hold your breath Destiny. This round goes to me." And she held her breath and won the competition. But when I pulled her up to admit defeat, she was unconscious and not breathing. Parents rushed over and tried to help by doing CPR but no one could get her to start breathing. After a minute I realised what I told her to do and tried to fix it by saying, "Breathe! Um... Live! "Undo!" I kept trying but didn't figure it out till 5 minutes later. By then I was getting weird looks by parents. Finally I yelled "Release!" praying it wasn't to late but thinking it was. I was wrong. Destiny started coughing up water while the lifeguard was pumping air into her lungs. I knew it was an accident but I felt horrible and now I hardly ever talk to her. I was so scared the same thing was happening to Rachel. My mind left for a minute thinking about Destiny but when I couldn't hear Rachel breathing at all I snapped out of my flashback and yelled, "Release!" I looked at Rachel praying for the best and dreading the worst. After about a minute she threw herself off the bed she had fallen onto breathing hard. For a moment she was confused. But she knew exactly what had happened from watching my other accidental victims. Rachel stared daggers at me. We didn't talk for a long moment while she recorded but she finally said,
"Why?" She said it so simpally. But I could tell by how softly she said it she was hurt.
"Rachel... I'm sorry... It was an accident. I'm really sorry." I tried. She looked at me, disappointment clouding her beautiful brown eyes.
"Whatever Carmon. You should go." She said. I looked at her with hurt in my eyes.
"Rachel... I said I didn't mean to. You always want me to command other people but when I accidentally do it to you you act as if I shot you!" I defended. She rolled her eyes.
"That's different. I want you to give me a little extra help in my classes not almost kill someone!" She shouted. I glared at her.
"Whatever Rachel. I told you i didn't mean to. If you want to be like that then fine! I'll see you when you get your sanity back!" I turned and stormed out of her room and down the large staircase into their huge living room. Rachel's mom was sitting on the couch watching her favourite T.V show, Cake Boss. Mrs. Suzy has always wanted to be a professional baker but when she married Rachel's dad and got pregnant with Rachel she never had time to pursue that dream. She doesn't talk about it much but I know she would have lied to have more than just the small business she has now. But I also know that she wouldn't give her family up for the world. Even if her husband is always miles away directing some big time movie. She looked at me with concern in her eyes.
"What's wrong Carmon?" She asked me cocking her head ever so slightly. I shook my head,
"Nothing. I just decided to go home early." I lied. I hate lying to her. Mrs. Suzy has this innocent look to her that makes you hate yourself every time you lie.
"Ok sweetie. I'll let your mom know your on your way." She said not even asking why I wasn't staying as long as normal. I nodded and said goodbye. I walked through their kitchen ad out onto their front porch. Since I'm 15 I can only drive with an adult in the car and I just don't want to ask Mrs. Suzy to take me home because her daughter and I got in a fight so I walked down the road to a bus stop. It took about 30 minutes for the city bus to pull up and I was about to fall asleep when it did. The driver honked it's horn and motioned for me to get on. I got off of the bench I has plopped myself on and handed her change to get me to my house. She nodded seeming satisfied that I had paid the right amount ad shut the bus doors. I turned away from the driver and made my way to the back of the bus. My house was about 30 minutes away from Rachel's so to occupy myself I pulled out my headphones and plugged in some music. As I was riding I allowed my mind I wonder to Erick. How he had grabbed me after our game of dodgeball (which we won).
"So Carmon... I was wondering... You know if you want to hang out Friday? Maybe a movie or something?" He had asked. He looked like he was prepared for a no but dreading it if there was. Which actually made me laugh internally. This amazing, cute, sweet boy actually thinks I would say no. Of course, I didn't say yes. I just nodded really quickly afraid to open my mouth. He had just smiled like a weight had been taken off his chest and said he would pick me up at 8 then turned and walked away. It wasn't how I imagined a boy asking me out but it was perfect. I had ran over to Rachel's as soon as I could to tell her the great news. Before my mind could wonder back to my fight with Rachel the bus stopped. I looked up from my phone and saw that it was parked right outside the bus stop two houses away from my house,  I got up and made my way to the front of the bus. Getting off I mumbled a thank you to the bus driver and walked home.
My mom was fixing spaghetti in the kitchen when I walked into our house. I  was hoping to sneak past her and get to my room. No such luck.
"Carmon? Is that you?" She asked. I heard her walk into the living room.
"Yeah. Hey mom." I said. She entered the living room wiping her sauce hands on her apron.
"Your home early." She noted. I nodded but she was persistant. "Why didn't you stay at Rachel's?" She asked. I pretended to be hurt.
"I'll go back if I'm not welcome." I said smiling. She smiled back and rolled her eyes.
"Seriously Carmon. Why are you back so early? Mrs. Suzy texted and said you seemed upset." My mom pressured. I rolled my eyes no longer smiling.
"Rachel and I got in a fight." I said softly. I had hoped she didn't hear me but she did. Her face melted into a motherly look of concern, she knows how little Rachel and I got in fights.
"What happened?" She asked. I shook my head dismissing it. She gave me the look that said, tell me or your in trouble.
"I commanded her by accident." I said looking down. A look of astonishment crossed her face.
"Carmon! Why would you do that?" She asked disbelief in her voice.
"We were talking about how this boy asked me out Friday and she started asking a lot of questions and I just... Told her to calm down! I didn't mean to! I'm sorry." I explained. She looked astonished.
"Carmon. No punishment this time but please try to be more careful." She said. I nodded and walked to my room. "Get washed up. Suppers will be ready soon!" She called as I walked away. I yelled an ok before closing my door. My room isn't as fancy as Rachel's. I've got a twin bed, a small dresser, and a closet that I can barley put cloths in. My family isn't that rich. Our one-story house is comprised of 3 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and two bathrooms. My brother, Hunter and I share one bathroom while my parents share the other. Hunters room looks exactly like mine except his room is colored brown with army posters all over it while mine is blue with little white spots on the ceiling to make it look a little like the sky. My parents is a little bigger with a master bathroom. I normally spend my time in my room or in the living room where the tv is. Our backyard is to small to play in so I'm normally just cooped up inside. I changed out of my school shorts and put on some comfortable gym shorts with my favourite tank. When I had changed I went to the bathroom to get ready for supper.
"Hey car." My dad said slipping by me on the way to the bathroom.
"Hey dad." I said back. He pushed past me and went into his room.
Once I was washed up I headed to the kitchen to help my mom set the table.
"So... About this boy, is he nice?" My mom asked while passing me the forks.
"Yeah. I think he said we were going to see a movie." I told her trying to hide my embarassment.
    "Oh? What movie?" She pressed.
"You know, Rachel did the same thing your doing right now." I playfully warned her.
"Yeah but I'm your mother." She replied but dropped the subject. I grabbed the plates and set them around the table while my mom followed behind me pouring spaghetti. Ten minutes later my mom called everyone to the table and we started eating.
"I got that raise today." My dad shared to my mom. Her face lit up.
"That's great honey!" She praised. We sat in silence eating our food for most of the meal. My brother mentioned his new status on his video game and dad promised to beat him after supper.
"Oh! I almost forgot! Carmon, don't you have some news you need to share with your father." My mom said. My dad looked over at me suspiciously. My brother just sat there eating his spaghetti not caring about the world unless he was in it. I shot a small glare to my mom before telling my dad.
"A boy named Erick asked me out to the movies today" I informed him. The look he gave me was pure worry. I didn't expect that. But I guess that's in every fathers wheelhouse.
"Oh... Well, I hope you guys have fun" he said unsure of what to do. I held back a laugh. For the rest of the meal I kept thinking about Erick and our date Friday night.
