I left Jonas and I's little dispute back at his house. I didn't have time to worry about him and whatever it was we had in 24hrs. I was only about an hour late the station but with my job on the line, you would have thought that I had skipped the day of labor all together. When I walked in through the cool station doors I was relieved of the smell of fresh coffee and the smell of perfect. It has a smell you know. The only thing about this sent of perfect was that it was perfect in a different way. In an odd unexpected way. In a bad way. I looked over to my podium, where I broadcasted and instantly felt my inside twist and lurch to the floor. Sitting in my specially fitted chair was Chrissy and all her perfect chocolate hair.
"Excuse me!" I yelped. Although if didn't sound as defined and strong as I had hoped.
"Well, well, well, " Mr. Bergman began, "Claire Barttlett. How nice of you too join us. You are so late I had to let Chrissy take the air. "
"I'm so sorry it won't happen again." I said. I had blushed redder then the Red Sea. I was so embarrassed especially because Chrissy had aired off and came over to stand next to Mr.Bergman.
"Maybe it should happen more often. It gives Chrissy a chance to go on air. "
"Yes thanks so much Claire. " Chrissy piped up. I hated her and all her job stealing ways.
"Should I go back on air? Jack is almost finished with sports." Chrissy asked in a gut wrenching peppy voice.
"No, no that's quite alright. Claire will take back her job now. You did excellent Chrissy." She gave me a pity smile and strutted over to the refreshment stand. I nervously walked over too my chair and prepared to be on air.
"Hey you!" Jonas' voice was happy and the definite clarity I needed. The guy I met last night at the bar was the only sure thing I had. Wow I must be a trainwreck.
"Hey" I said "what's up?"
"I was wondering if toy wanted to go get some lunch with me?"
"I can't, sorry. I'm meeting my friend Cassie for lunch."
"Oh okay." He sounded a little shot.
"But could I take a raincheck for dinner tonight at 6:00?"
"Sure! Got to go right now but I'll see you at home? "
"Yes" I said hanging up the phone. I walked into the place where I was meeting Cassie. It was a cute little cafè called Vivian's. I spotted her sitting at a table fit for two. She had golden hair like me but hers sparkled more. She looked great for a mom of a soon to be two year old.
"Hey girlie!" She said and wrapped me up in a strong hug.
"Hey yourself Cass." We continued chatting and laughing. I ordered a B.L.T. and an iced tea. As we ate and laughed she brought up the subject I dared not to bring up.
"Alright Claire. I have something I need to talk to you about. After my accident I started thinking. Thinking about the future. What if something like that happens again and I'll be less prepared then last time. Caelynn's getting older and I have to start thinking about her future. She wont always have me. And I cant be all she has." A month ago Cassie was hit by a drunk driver. Thankfully she was alright but, Caelynn was left with no one for the time in the hospital. Thankfully Cassie's mom wad able to watch her. But it really messed with Cassie's head.
"What I'm trying to say is that I would like you and Neil to be Caelynn's God parents."
"Neil and I are seperating." I said quietly to her.
"Oh, I'm so sorry I had no idea. What happened? "
"He is rough with me." I said half near tears.
