Chapter II Entrainment and Meditation

I was always a dreamer, not in the lazy unrealistic way, but having vivid interesting dreams that I wanted to continue after I woke up and looked forward to sleeping and dreaming again. I had heard of lucid dreaming where one can know when they are dreaming and direct them. I wasn't very successful in accomplishing this, and so turned to meditation, which I thought would help gain access to my mind's functioning.

I achieved a modicum of success with meditation but it was far from sufficient. I spent many hours alone meditating and then a few times in organized group sessions. I understood and accepted that meditation like most disciplines require extraordinary and sustained effort to achieve any degree of success. I also accept that I have not given any of my pursuits the necessary effort. However, I also believe in the 80/20 rule that says, 'you achieve 80% of your objective in 20% of the time'. So I have weakly justified abandoning some of these approaches early to get off on another more fruitful route. I was never sure where all these paths would lead but felt a need to keep exploring.

Then I had an opportunity to learn the basics of Reiki, which is a mysterious way of healing with only light touching. I thought of Edgar Cayce and Teresa Santiago and wondered if this could provide a clue to what the force or medium was.

So after one brief training session I was left with the feeling that something may be going on but completely unenlightened as to why or how it was possible. The process was quite straight forward in that the practitioner first has their mind and body entrained through a series of procedures and concentrations where they end up in a meditative like state. Then when they lay their hands on the subject/patient the energy flows through the hands to that part of the body being touched.

It all sounded like hocus pocus voodoo stuff but I decided to research it anyway. What I found was quite eye popping. I recognized from the meditation I had done that in order to entrain the mind and tap into this mysterious energy force, the mind has to be in the meditative Alpha frequency range (7.8 Hz). But what did this mean?

It was only when I found that the natural resonant frequency of our planet earth was also 7.8 Hz did I realize that this could be part of the explanation for Healers, Shaman, Meditators, Reiki, and other psychic phenomenon. I would add in this group the spiritual leaders who are reputed to have mystical/magical powers.

Our planet earth's constant heartbeat also known as the Schumann Resonance is always present because it is continuously being stimulated by lightning strikes around the world. It occurs in the area surrounding the earth between the surface and the ionosphere; a natural waveguide. See

What fascinated me about this was the coincidence that our most extraordinary and lucid mental activity and energy flow occurs at the same frequency as our earth's heartbeat. I thought about the Reiki procedure of first being grounded and tuned to (entrained) the earth's resonant frequency before any healing would take place.

Moreover all living things on earth have evolved with the earth's heartbeat always present. We are all always in the presence of this constant resonant frequency. Why then couldn't this frequency be used as a vehicle to communicate, once we learn how to tune into it, maybe as radio waves are modulated to send intelligent signals.

Could it be that simple and if so why wasn't there much more research to prove it? The success of reiki I could accept if it is just the energy transferred through the resonant frequency that is doing the healing. But if it is knowledge of complex medical situations, that is harder to explain.

Lynne McTaggart in her book The Field talks about a body of knowledge 'out there' that we can all tap into. This is an interesting idea, but the devil is in the details. It's the where and the how that needs to be sorted out.

These special mysterious powers were usually attributed to some select religious leaders. Healing of the sick and the miracles in Christianity were used as examples of interventions of a higher power. It would be very strange and unusual if people with those abilities would not have gathered a following and been looked upon with adoration and reverence.

I really thought that the meditative alpha wave frequency and the Schumann Resonance connection was going to lead somewhere. And it did explain the importance of grounding and possibly the so-called 'spiritual' energy around pyramids and other sacred places. And I could understand how energy in the form of 'good vibrations' might be experienced, but I couldn't see how to get from there to intelligent communication and knowledge.

So I was at an impasse and temporarily left thepursuit until ...
