Before I open my eyes I let my other senses work. I can smell an aroma of fresh pine and rain soaked dirt. I can hear the calls of tiny birds, and hear them whizzing by flapping their small wings. The rain starts to fall heavier and I feel the cool drops seep through my clothes and I shiver as they reach my skin. I bite my lip hard just to be sure, and blood escapes trickling into my mouth. The taste is all I need to reassure me. Finally I open my eyes, and I am overwhelmed by the vast space of green that surrounds me. The pine trees reach up for the skies around me. I spin around and find myself standing in a forest clearing. In the centre is me, in my own little reality. Looking down I can see that where had laid had been impacted by my fall. The ground had given way to create a shape that resembled my body. How far had I fallen? From Heaven I realised. That’s when I see the great wings on my back, incredible in their beauty. One is the purest shade of white I had ever seen, and the soft little feathers malted like snowflakes when I moved. The other is a sleek jet black. I cry of joy and as I push myself into the air, my wings barely need to work as my body seemingly light as feather rises into the clearing above me. The trees grow smaller as I rise further into the grey sky above, even the wind cannot hound me and my new found ecstasy. Beyond the forest I can see grand mountains, vast black lakes and on the horizon the ocean. I become overwhelmed with emotion and descend to the ground landing in my bed of soil below. I claw at the earth in an attempt to ground myself. A tear escapes my eye as all my doubts and fears are cleared. I am human again.
