The Start of the Nightmare

I woke up  with sweat running down my face. It was still dark, so I must have not have been asleep for too long. I looked over at my alarm clock to see the time is 3 AM.

What is wrong with you? Pull yourself together Sam. It was just a dream.

I then heard the front door open and close with some giggling. It was the sound of my mom and a stranger. I went to my door and look ever so slightly to see my mom with a man that I had never seen in my life. She seemed drunk.

My mother has never been drunk in her life. Who is that?

My mom heard my door and came over and slapped me across the face.

"Go back to bed skank! Leave me and Anthony to get frisky!" My face stung. My mother has never laid a hand on me in any way to hurt me. Why is she being this way? I looked in the mirror to see a huge red spot from where I was hit.

The Anthony man was still at my home in the morning. He didn't seem too sober even 4 hours later. My mother wasn't anywhere to be seen, but the Anthony man was sitting at the kitchen table watching me as I readied myself for school.

"What's your name?" His voice boomed in the room causing me to jump.

"My mother calls me Sam, and I suppose you didn't have enough to drink last night?" There was liquor on his breath and in the coffee he drank. I could smell it a mile away.

"I could easily bring you to the floor dead with the back of my hand, Missy. I would treat me with a little bit of respect, Sam." I was actually a little afraid, so I grabbed my keys and left, but the Anthony man said something else before I went out the door.

"I suggest you go grab your things from your room. I will kill you if you come home tonight or anytime this week. Find somewhere else to go. You're not wanted." I looked at him with great fear and ran up to get my new journal, laptop and a couple other things including chargers and about $200 from my drawer. I ran to my car and headed to school completely forgetting about my face which now was becoming a bruise.

Niki and Diane caught up with me and asked what happened to me and why I was later than usual. I explained everything from the dream to the interaction with the Anthony man.

"Do you want to stay with me for the week?" Diane asked me. I nodded and went into school where people looked at my face like the people did in my dream. I saw Don and came up to him.

"Woah, what's up with your face, Sam? Who did this?"

"My mother...Last night." He was shocked and hugged me. I told him that I had to stay with Diane for the week since I was threatened by a stranger. Something was off about him, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
